A wedding at The Gardens at HCP last summer featuring gorgeous DIY flowers, a chuppah (a canopy over the couple to symbolize the home they will build together), a private signing of a gorgeous Ketubah (Jewish wedding contract), the couple being draped in a Tallit (a prayer shawl), a circling ceremony, observing the yichud (a sacred private moment alone after the ceremony), the Hora dance, DIY cake, incredible Jewish food, memorial candles for recent painful losses, and an afterglow session at the sunset complete with most of their guests coming with drinks and snacks to celebrate more!

Phew. It's a lot. I should probably blog this bad boy. It's hard to summarize all those details and thoughtful moments and culture in 10 frames but I gave it my best shot.

Coming out of winter hibernation to finally share some magic. This season has been a lot—and not just the weather. But weddings always bring me back to the best parts of being alive. They’re grounding, spirit-lifting, life-affirming. A reminder that even when the world feels heavy, love keeps showing up.

So here’s to all my 2024 couples making their own good news—because people fall in love and choose each other, every damn day.

This wedding was a masterclass in doing things your way—laid-back, deeply emotional, and effortlessly stylish. J&R were unapologetic in crafting a day that reflected them and no one else. A forested ceremony at Saxe Point, a romp through downtown, and a finale at a painfully cool tapas bar.

But that’s part two. For now, here’s Part 1 of this effortlessly awesome day for the coolest couple. J&R—thank you for having me along!

Happy hallowed eve from my creepy crew to yours!

(and, for the record, this photo was incredibly hard to pull off even for a seasoned photographer, a tripod, and a bunch of techy tech to make it happen. Let's just say I am happy our faces are covered so you can't see how unimpressed my children are. I had to recover the toddler 97 times and we almost called it quits after just a few minutes of trying. So if you're feeling a pang of regret or pressure to take a spooky photo, banish it! It's way harder than it seems to pull this kind of stuff off, no matter how easy social media makes it look.)

Repeat after me: fewer people never means less magic. These two chose an intimate celebration with just 12 guests in her grandparents' lush backyard to say their vows – and there wasn't a dry eye in sight. Sometimes, a smaller crowd creates more room for magic, moments, and memories.

Them: "We were thinking something lush and green, maybe with a waterfall?"

Goldstream park: "Hold my beer."

An absolute knockout of an engagement session for these two. Who actually have already tied the knot, I just suck at social media!

$1000 y’all. Thank you with my whole heart. Here are some of the gorgeous souls who came for minis and supported Madleen through that. Last photo is a picture Madleen sent of a FULL truck of WATER she arranged for her community within their refugee camp. I told you support Madleen meant supporting everyone near her! She is a force to be reckoned with. I know it doesn’t solve a whole crisis or stop a war and really it’s a drop in what is feeling like a never ending bucket, but it’s something you guys. It’s something. And that’s not nothing. Thank you.

Normally my approach to fundraising and donations is to just take a cut of the profits and donate them. This is fairly clear on my website and I try to pick projects that pertain to life here on the island, our oceans, and 1-2 timely issues in the world. But this is to help my friend Madleen, and the best thing I can offer to raise more funds than I can personally donate is to offer up my services. Madleen is trapped in Gaza with 4r children, and while the situation has been dire the whole time, it's become downright dangerous. Her children are sick. They need water, diapers, formula, and medicine. Her youngest is 5 months old; she gave birth in October just after everything came to pass. they are living in a tent and have been displaced time and time again, most recently forced to flee Rafah back to Gaza City. Bombs drop daily, and the water is not drinkable, so they are forced to forego food to afford bottled water. I will spare the details of her children's suffering because I know as a tender-hearted mama myself it can be hard to recover from some of these stories.

Please help me help Madleen. Every time we send funds, once she has fed her family she goes and buys supplies to share with those suffering around her. Her compassion seems limitless. If needed, I can provide photos and evidence of how far the money goes (and that it's recieved and used as hoped). It's also sent via PayPal which is secure and safe (even with banks shut).

You can enter the raffle if you're not from Victoria and donate it to a local family that cannot afford a session. (I have a list). If you're a former client, you can opt for a print credit. I haven't put an expiry date. I want to make this as shareable as possible.

Please help by sharing!

Fun story about this session - it doesn’t look it but this was in January and it was calling for a huge dump of snow AND she was about to get induced early by surprise. They piled into their beloved VW van and came over the Malahat for a same day “emergency” session (was scheduled later that month) and got rewarded with sunshine and perfect light. The storm rolled in that night and the baby came a few days later! I’m so glad they were able because I mean look at them.

Meant to post this 29 days ago, but thanks to rolling back to back illnesses for myself or my kiddos, a slew of snow days, and my baby who I swear was just born a few months ago turning 2 (how the?) I ended up adrift in the time-warp that is January.

But happy new year anyway. Sometimes the world is just too much and we need joy dragged back into it. These two brought it in full force into my life and work by having me along for their NYE wedding. More to come, for now - sparklers and joy.

This is your sign to have an Afterglow Session. As in after your wedding, while you still have that newlywed glow, we meet up again somewhere epic we wouldn't have made it to on your wedding day (too far to get to, too much potential to get dirty, too much effort) AND at a beautiful time of day we likely couldn't have shot at (I am looking at you reception time vs sunset time). You come clad in your wedding clothes, and we proceed to have a rad time doing whatever we want, in beautiful light at a beautiful location.

Think of it a cousin to an engagement shoot. It's a "Heck yes, we did it" shoot! Plus wear those expensive clothes again, have a second celebration, maybe even change and go out to dinner after. Couples first married date night?

Does it have to be a mountain top like Pkols like T & C here? Nope! Let's meet downtown for tacos and twinkling city lights, or canoe and then have a campfire at dusk, maybe we will get tattoos and then go do shots in a dim bar. Just tell me where to be and I'll be there.

R&B tied the knot last summer completely on their own terms. They are a couple that is complete unto themselves - disregarding all kinds of expectations, norms, roles, and more. All this showed through in the details of their day and, more importantly, the atmosphere of the day which was one of pure focus on each other, their best people, and their commitment to each other. Everything that took away from that was set aside. It was a day of pure delight honestly.

While they shed everything that just didn't fit, what they pursued for their day was awesome luxuries: epic (and curated!) cocktails, a whole bbq pig unearthed for dinner, and unreal flowers were just the beginning.

In light of pride weekend (here in Victora) and the news from the "supreme" court, the stabbing in Ontario in the gender studies class, and recently some homophobic graffiti on a rainbow cross walk right here in my town ....

// Everyone is worthy of love. And all love stories are worthy of being told. //

That's it, that's the story. Beginning and end.

I could never turn a couple down based on who they love - I have space for you. I see you. Pull up a seat.

What I don't have space for is hatred, racism, bigotry, transphobia, homophobia, xenophobia, prejudice, fatphobia, ableism, ageism*, or invalidation of families that look different from the "norm."

** all ages: must be legal age to marry. So by all ages I mean 19 to 100 and beyond 😂.
