Carvenator
I am a coast Salish Carver of about 35 years, Dr Samuel Sam My Father was my original mentor, at the age of 5 he put me inside of the 50 foot canoe he was building in our front yard. and as I watched him build this canoe with only hand tools ,no power tools I was very intrigued ,as I grew older he had me help make paddles patch canoes and eventually after graduation went to work for him, learning all of the protocols of the Coast Salish people, and was very fortunate to be given a legacy handed down from generation to generation , I then transferred my skills from building 6o foot ocean canoes into Carving Totem poles with a Coast Salish Master carver, eventually decided to become a teacher of Coast Salish art work by doing workshops for grade school high school, collage ,and university students ,I now have a B/A in fine art, working toward a masters and hopefully a PhD in the fine art department to teach at the university level, OSIAM all my relations keep the circle strong
In 2006 I received my degree in fine art and creative writing from the Enowkin ce3nter in Penticton.
In 2010 I received my B/A in fine art from the university of Victoria
I have also traveled to Germany to carve a Totem over there and have collaborated with various other artists on other totems in and around Victoria, I have also carved 60 foot logs for tribal journey canoes I have been teaching grade school for 35 years collage and university for about 15 years
