A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT ME...
My love for photography began at an early age but got super serious about it in 1998 when my dad gave me his 1970s Canon SLR. I was at the height of my career as a professional makeup artist all the while my passion for photography grew. While working as a professional makeup artist for fashion editorials and commercial advertising, I vigorously honed my skills shooting models, actors, and friends when an agency took note and was blown away by how I was able to capture one of their top models in a way she'd never been captured before. That was a turning point for me to step into photography professionally. I photographed everything from actors, models to weddings to corporate to families to pets to commercial to editorial and love it all. My passion for beauty, style, and authenticity combined with the know-how of communicating a brand or personal message of a person have come full circle where I am able to capture the soul light of a person in an editorial-style manner whilst telling their story in stunning imagery. Mostly self-taught, I drew upon the experience, knowledge and expertise of the many creative professionals I worked with and continue to stay up-to-date with professional education and business development. In 2004, I launched my photography business shooting personal lifestyle, weddings, fashion, editorial, commercial and non-profit work. I aim to create soulful, timeless imagery for clients with a vision to make a positive impact in the community. I'm committed to creating compelling images that reveal the soul, inspire connection and leave a lasting impression. My faith in people and love for children, animals and nature ever inspire me to live and work in a more compassionate and sustainable way. With a background in advertising, fashion editorial and the joy of motherhood, I find joy in capturing those magical fleeting moments in our everyday world creating imagery that could easily come out of a magazine. Although I often work with notable personalities and the like, I have discovered that much of my best work and happiest clients are those who don’t normally like having their picture taken (which is most of us!). The results are amazing and the most rewarding for me as a photographer with a mission to deliver joy to my clients and help them succeed in what they love doing. My warm heart and calm nature always carry me through for a fun and relaxed experience and my biggest joy is seeing my clients fully express and blossom in front of the camera so they come away feeling connected, inspired, and joyful themselves. That wonderful feeling of being lost in the moment has kept me hooked ever since. My keen eye for detail, empathetic nature, and unique style evolved into a strong passion and natural affinity for the portrait arts. My work has been published in SFU's Alumni Quarterly, Fresh Vancouver and TV Week magazines, and I was a featured photographer on ET Canada's Celebrity Makeover with Cheryl Hickey. Happy clients include notable television personalities Kevin Newman of CTV, Erin Cebula, Robin Stickley and Anne Drewa of Global Television, non-profits UBC + VGH Hospital Foundation of BC, BC Children's Hospital and the David Suzuki Foundation, commercial clients Mountain Equipment Coop, TransLink and TELUS, and a myriad of entrepreneurs, business owners, families, kids, couples and critters. Motivated by my passion for photography and lifelong desire to help make a difference in the world, I became a consultant with Beautycounter, a skincare and cosmetics company leading the way in the growing movement towards safer beauty, providing makeup and hair services for my portrait clients. My lifelong desire to help animals in need, I volunteered for the BC SPCA through fundraising and photographing adoption portraits. I created a pet photography website called Critters of the Earth (on hold for now) that provided my animal lover clients with artful imagery of furry friends & fauna along with uplifting and moving animal stories. I have a home studio located in Victoria, BC where I live with my creative husband and business partner Michael Chmara and our boy wonder Connor Boone, along with our sweet kitties Cosmo and Levi and gorgeous pup Sophie.

This kind of portrait may feel especially fitting for an actor or model, but beautiful portraits like this matter for so many reasons.

Casting. Personal branding. Publicity. Websites. Social media. Speaking opportunities. Even dating profiles. Or simply capturing a moment in your life when you want to see yourself differently and be seen differently too.

A portrait that truly sees you and makes a lasting impression is about so much more than just looking good in a photo.

It’s about presence. Feeling. Expression. Confidence. It’s about capturing something honest and compelling, something people can actually feel when they look at the image.

That’s the beauty of a real, in person portrait experience. Thoughtful guidance, human connection, and images that reflect who you are in a way a quick snapshot or AI simply can’t.
This is what I love to create, and I would love to capture that for you too.

I’m honoured and excited to be part of a Royal Roads University panel discussion on The Entrepreneurial Journey alongside some inspiring entrepreneurs and leaders happening tomorrow.

As someone who has spent much of my life in creative industries, first in advertising, then as a makeup artist, and now photographer, creative producer and podcast host, I’ve learned that entrepreneurship is about so much more than building a business.

It’s about many things including:
- Learning to express yourself more fully.
- Stepping outside your comfort zone.
- Finding confidence in your own voice.
- Building meaningful relationships and community.
- And continuing to grow into who you’re becoming.

Photography has been such a wonderful tool in my own journey of self-expression and self-acceptance and I'm very grateful that the work that I provide for my clients allows me to help them feel seen too.

I’m really looking forward to this conversation and sharing honest reflections on creativity, entrepreneurship, storytelling, visibility and human connection in today’s world.

Thank you to Royal Roads University for the invitation 🤍

Being Connor’s mom is the greatest gift in my life. Time truly is fleeting, and they grow up so fast. I couldn’t be more proud of him and the man he is becoming.

Wising all the mothers, past and present, new and seasoned, a day filled with love, peace and the reminder that you are deeply loved and appreciated.

I’m sharing another beautiful clip from my conversation with Monika Becker on The Eloquent Entrepreneur.

In this one, Monika reflects on the legacy she hopes to leave: being present, caring deeply, making a positive difference, and helping others become more true to themselves.

Such a simple but powerful reminder that meaningful impact doesn’t always have to be loud or grand.

I often hear clients say some variation of this before their session:

“I’m not photogenic.”
“I feel awkward in front of the camera.”
“I don’t usually like photos of myself.”

And I get it. Being photographed can feel vulnerable, because it is.

But I would love to help shift that narrative.

What if instead of dreading being photographed, you could start to feel excited about it?

What if your photos helped you see yourself differently? What if they became a powerful part of your marketing toolbox, showing your presence, personality, warmth, confidence and the heart behind your work?

Because your images are often speaking for you before you ever get the chance to be in the room.

That is one of the things I love most about what I do for my clients.

It’s not just about creating beautiful photos. It’s about helping you feel more confident, visible and aligned with the work you’re here to do.

And is in more ways that one where I feel the most rewarded as not only as your photographer, but your coach, creative director, intuitive guide and your biggest fan!

So if you’ve been putting off having new photos taken because you don’t feel ready, you may not need more confidence first.

Sometimes the confidence comes from finally letting yourself be seen.

There’s a moment Wendy Burton shares that really stayed with me.

Wendy was a single mom trying to make it work and she had $5 to her name and an empty gas tank. She thought what so many of us might think do in a situation like that - 'I can't fix this'.

And then something happened that shifted everything.

The gas station attendant looks at her and says 'Congratulations, you’re our 100th customer!' followed by a full tank of gas and a coupon for dinner. Right when she needed it most.

Call it angels. Call it divine timing. Call it the universe.
But it’s hard to ignore when the timing is that exact.

You need more content.”

We hear this everywhere, from marketing blogs, social media courses, branding experts, and pretty much every conversation about visibility.

And yes, content matters. But after more than twenty years of photographing entrepreneurs, creatives, and business owners, I’ve learned that more content doesn’t always create more connection.

So many clients come to me saying they’ve had photos taken before, but the images didn’t really feel like them. They had lots to choose from and were trying to show up consistently, but something still felt off.

Because volume alone won’t build a brand that lacks clarity, creative direction, and purpose.

I believe a smaller, more intentionally created collection of images that truly reflects who you are will always be more powerful than a huge gallery full of generic shots.

One of my amazing clients, Susan Oubari, described her portraits as “the key to my soul, the first impression to prospective clients.” And that’s exactly what thoughtful brand photography can do. It helps people feel your presence and begin to trust you before you’ve even said a word.

The pressure to create more is constant. But presence doesn’t come from quantity. It comes from clarity, confidence, and images that actually feel like you.

If you’ve been creating more but feeling less aligned, maybe it’s time for a different kind of photo session.

What if leadership wasn’t just about strategy, logic and performance?

In this clip from The Eloquent Entrepreneur, leadership coach Monika Becker of Clear Directions Consulting shares how human-first leadership begins with sincere conversations, inner clarity and reconnecting with ourselves as whole human beings.

I love this part of our conversation because Monika speaks so beautifully to the deeper work of leadership, not just what we do, but who we are being while we do it.

Yes, logic matters.

But so do presence, emotion, intuition, self-awareness and the willingness to understand our own inner landscape.

Because when leaders are willing to embrace their own humanity, they create space for others to do the same.
