DECEMBER // Light pillars in the winter sky.

These photos were taken on a cold winter night just outside of my hometown in southern Manitoba in late December. Light pillars or ice pillars are an atmospheric optical phenomenon in which a vertical beam of light appears to extend above a light source. The effect is created by the reflection of light from tiny ice crystals that are suspended in the atmosphere.

These photos were all shot on a Sony A7Rii with a 24-70mm f2.8 GM lens!

Better late than never! Sorry for the long over due December post! Enjoy!

NOVEMBER // Chasing whitetails is what November is dedicated towards. When the temperatures start to get lower, and the daylight hours begin to get shorter you know big mature bucks are going to be more active and on their feet.

These photos are all from November 11 2021. When I was blessed with one of these magnificent moments in time. At day break I caught movement out of the corner of my eye about 400 yards to my east. Quickly scrambling for my binos, I glassed a good buck moving quickly across the narrow hay field westward. He stopped at 325 yards only steps from disappearing into the bush. This was my moment. This was my chance. Shouldering my rifle and trying to calm my nerves and shakes, I squeezed off 2 shots before he made the bush. The shots sounded good, but he didn't flinch or kick or anything, he just walked out of sight into the trees. I gathered my thoughts and gear and headed in his direction to where he was standing when I shot. There was a couple drops of blood, so I followed his tracks towards the timber, staring at the ground. As I glanced upwards to cross the fence I seen him laying beside a big split trunk tree only making it 30 yards! There my big buck lay!

November is a very special time as a whitetailer. We live for these moments and these amazing animals! For the wild places and spaces they call home. Thank you.

SWEET SWEET SEPTEMBER // When the bull elk begin to bugel, the whitetails start to rub their ithcy velvet off, and the ducks and geese begin to fly andnfeed in freshly harvested crop fields. The beginning of fall truly is a perfect time to be outdoors!

AUGUST // TRAIL BUDDIES

I apologize for the delay on my monthly post for August. I've been working in a very remote / off grid spot in the mountains of northern British Columbia with very limited cell service or WiFi. I've actually seen lots of squirrels around the mountains, so this post fits perfectly. I hope you all enjoy my little trail buddies as much as I do!

These photos were taken a couple years ago in Winnipeg MB while I was hiking into one my favorite little fishing spots along side the Red River. This squirrel followed me all the way down the trail to my spot. He watched me carefully from only a few feet away. After hanging out for 10 or so minutes, he climbed up a big cottonwood tree until I could no longer see him through the tree top canopy. I used a Sony A7Rii camera paired with a Sony 70-200mm F2.8 lens to capture these images.

JULY // CURVES CARVED THROUGH THE LANDSCAPE

The summer greenery and tree top canopy of July begin to flourish on the banks of the rivers that curve and twist through the prairies landscape. These rives have been carved into soil and rock by a great amount of time and percistance. Creating some of the most amazing views, sounds, and life that call these waters home.

These photos were taken with a drone high above the Rat River in MB. A special place where I learnt to fish, swim, and respect the flow of the river as a youngster.

JUNE // UP CLOSE & PERSONAL

June is a special month for whitetail does as many of them are brining new life into this world and raising their little spotted fawns.

I was lucky enough to capture this momma coming down to the rivers edge where I was fishing one evening. She was very curious of what I was doing. She kept making her way closer and closer to me. At the closest we were no further than 15 feet apart as she browsed on some fresh vegetation growing along the banks. It was a pretty special moment in time and such a great expierence. She eventually feed further and further down the river until she slipped back into the hardwoods. So glad I could capture this special moment in time.

These sequence of photos were taken with my Sony A7Rii camera on a 70-200mm f2.8 GM lens.

Hope you enjoy these as much as I do!
