When capturing interiors, my goal is to showcase spaces as they truly are—accurate colors, balanced lighting, and a natural feel that reflects the designer’s or homeowner’s vision. One of the biggest challenges in interior photography is mixed lighting—warm incandescent bulbs, cool daylight from windows, and everything in between.
This is where flash makes all the difference.
Take a look at these two images:
All-Ambient Light – The colors may appear overly warm or cool depending on the light sources in the room. Shadows can be muddy, and there’s often a lack of depth. Some areas may be too dark, while others are blown out, especially near windows.
Ambient + Flash Blend – By introducing controlled flash, I balance the lighting across the space, neutralizing unwanted color casts and preserving the true tones of furniture, walls, and décor. The result? A crisp, vibrant, and natural-looking image that represents the space as it is meant to be seen.
Flash doesn’t overpower the scene—it enhances it. When blended with ambient light, it allows for a polished, magazine-quality look that showcases the craftsmanship and design without distortion.
