I came across a few old audio clips the other day… nothing planned, just her singing songs, asking questions that didn’t quite make sense, telling me a story she made up.
I thought I’d listen for a few seconds. I stayed a while.
There’s something about hearing their voice again, the exact way it sounded in that moment, that hits differently. It’s not just memory… it feels like you’re back there for a second. And it made me realize how much of that we lose without even noticing.
We try to capture the big things. Birthdays, milestones, the moments that look important..and they are. But it’s the little, everyday moments, the random conversations, the way they call your name, the things they say when they’re not trying… that’s the part that disappears without warning. Those are the pieces I wish I had more of.
If there’s one small thing you can start doing… just record the audio. No setup, no plan. Let it run for a minute here and there. Someday, you’ll sit there listening to it… and it won’t just be audio. It’ll feel like stepping back into a version of your life you didn’t realize you’d miss this much.
