Sharing my own mom emotions here again… I’m a photographer and even I am guilty of it.
Most of my photos with my daughter, Skylar, are blurry selfies taken with one stretched out arm while she tries grabbing the phone from my hand.
I document so many photos of her in her every day life. Showcasing her personality, playing with our dog, her cousins, her dada. But photos with me in them - playing, cuddling, and showcasing our relationship - are very rare.
With my own mom, our recent photos together are also squinty, blurry selfies once a month (or even less!).
Luckily, we did a family session last fall where we got some amazing photos together. They’re not perfect - my nieces are crazy girls, the wind blew our hair in our faces, and it was a chilly day that called for oversized coats. But we embraced the chaos, we ran with the girls, group hugged to warm up, and documented our family in our true chaotic form. We love those photos. We printed those photos. And we look at them every day.
We need more photos like those, as a family.
I wish I had more photos like those with my mom when I was younger.
And I want my daughter to have those with me.
Going forward I’m going to make sure I am documented in my family’s memories. I want my daughter to look back and remember me in all the moments of our lives together.
And I want the same for you. I want to document you in all the seasons of parenthood too.
Take the phone photos of your partner. Book the session.
Let’s make sure we’re shown in our family’s memories 🤍
