I actually SQUEALED when I saw this inquiry come in. I had spent some time with this amazing family just a few short years ago.

Funny story. The very first session we had together mom and I were pregnant at the exact same time. We were walking down to their dock and good old me, slipped, fell and SLID BUM FIRST all the way down a hill. I have never been the most delicate of humans, and this proved yet again, I will always be a hot mess. I was able to get up and finish one of the most epic sessions ever. If you have ever shot with me you know, this girl is bumping into something, tripping or hitting her head on the nearest fan hahahahah

The greatest compliment to me, is when I am invited back into the lives of my clients to document another milestone. Congrats to this wonderful fam jam🤍

Sometimes there are people in your life that are the human form of light. Anyone that knows this momma, knows she is exactly that. Beautiful human, inside and out. So honoured to have spent the evening with this family soaking in the last few moments of being a family of three. ✨

When I proved all the doubt wrong, when I didn’t give up, when I gave all my energy into building this business from the ground up - I am SO PROUD.

Sometimes all you need is your best friend. When they came to me with the idea, I counted down the days to this shoot. When they trusted me to create freely, I ran wild. Here’s to our best friends.

My kids will be 19, 14 and 3 this year. There is a a massive age gap between the three. I often am asked, how does it feel to start all over again after so many years? Well, it feels right. Like there really wasn’t any other story written for me.

When I look back at the years between each of my kids, I was always surrounded by newborns, toddlers and children. I have never really “left” the newborn stage since I started documenting newborns and families. The years have passed quickly, and I feel that my soul has yet to age. I have been fully immersed into so many clients’ lives, always opening my heart to them like family, that it feels like there was never a beginning and end to “start over”.

The biggest thing I can say as a mom with kids and having a big age gap is all the different versions of a mom you need to be. Teenager problems are not any easier, they just get bigger. They become less dependant on you, but as they try and find who they are meant to be, they look to you in who YOU are. The themes of our conversations shift and guiding them while not wanting to let them too far out of reach is our biggest challenge yet. While simultaneously, teaching my toddler emotional regulation, courage and discovering the world while perfectly snuggling on my lap. (Because what is personal space with a toddler like mine). It is not for the weak, lol, but it shows you how many layers there are to yourself.

You are never just one thing, you are expansive, ever changing and capable of ‘ doing unconventional things’. If you are ever worried about a large age gap, or starting over, keep this as your reminder.🤍

Let’s talk about my life and the “woo” I believe in. 💫

The other day I found FOUR, yes four, four leaf clovers. I saw 11:11 and 2:22 on the clock. Everyone said it’s time to buy a lottery ticket. Well as my life has it lol, the very next day my lens broke!

Now, before my mindset would of been SO negative. I would of been annoyed, angry and ready to tap out. This time, I sat back and remembered the day before and all the magic that was around me. I could of spent my night and all my energy being angry, over something so beyond my control. (Yes, I am SUPER ANNOYED!) But instead… I sent the lens in, ordered a loaner and I have the best community of photographer friends who have bailed me out of a really unfortunate situation and have let be borrow their equipment until my loaner comes in.

I thought to myself that maybe those clovers didn’t really bring me LUCK, but thinking back at it, holding onto that feeling, my mindset shifted and I was able to be reminded of all the good I am surrounded by. While those clovers didn’t bring me a fixed, new lens - they brought me hope. Opening my eyes to the little ✨signs ✨ in my life, I lean into more magic and beauty that surrounds my daily life.

That is why the woo is important to me. It is a constant reminder when things get tough and dark that I am supported and loved.

Over the years I have had photographers reaching out to me asking me how I get so many epic poses in my newborn lifestyle sessions. Three most common mistakes I see newborn photographers make when they first start out. 👇🏼

1. Rushing the baby - This is the BIGGEST ONE. Newborn sessions usually never run on time. They run on baby’s time. My golden rule 90% soothing / 10% shooting. I stand by this since 2013. Babies need extra time for feeding, changing and snuggling. Moms also need this time to not feel rushed. My sessions run from 1-3 hours.

2. Prioritizing poses over safety - (especially in studio sessions) often photographers/clients want to recreate images they see online, uneducated in what goes into taking these shots. Most are composites, understanding when baby is unsettled, needs extra support to head/neck is all essential to creating photographs that look effortless.

3. Understanding light - (I think this is key in photography in general) - for lifestyle sessions in particular, you walk into the unknown in terms of what kind of lighting situation you will get. Learning to understand light, as well as having proper gear to help you tell the families story will also make a nice photo into an epic piece of art.

With over 500+ newborn sessions under my belt, each one is always a chance to learn something new and push myself further.

Thanks for the years of support
