We usually have a couple of bottle babies on our small dairy farm.
Two. Maybe four.
This month? Ten. TEN.
Apparently our best cows all compared calendars...and a little sexed semen got thrown into the mix!
Milking time has officially turned into bottle time. I have two hands… which feels wildly inadequate when ten bottle calves are convinced they are first in line and possibly starving to death.
There are bottles to fill, pens to bed, and ten very loud opinions if I am not moving fast enough.
It’s a lot of work.
But it’s also a lot of wobbling legs, fresh bedding rodeos, and kids suddenly very interested in barn chores again.
Ten bottle babies is a lot. Especially when you have a small herd and you are used to 2-4 bottle babies!
And somehow… it’s also a lot of joy.
