Hi 🙋🏻‍♀️ I’m a nostalgia girlie

When Tiff + Steph agreed to a creative session at Into the Music with me, I was stoked.

I’ve wanted to do a record store session for a couple of years now and decided to just make it happen! Tiff + Steph were perfect for this idea because they genuinely enjoy listening to records and searching around for albums to add to their collection.

‌

I completely understand wanting to get all dressed up and look your best for your engagement photos (probably why nobody wanted to go to a record store with me lol) but the session doesn’t have to stop there!

This last year I’ve leaned into my couples’ stories and personalities more than I ever have. I want to know you, what you love to do together, and what you’re like together in order to tell your story!

We started our session with me saying “okay so we’re basically just going to pretend you’re on a date hunting for some new records”. Which was essentially what they were doing anyways, because they stayed after our shoot to buy a few albums for themselves!

Gimme all your Pinterest finds - I love to see your vision for your session or wedding and bring it to life. I don’t copy the poses or recreate exact images, we’ll capture unique shots true to YOU

but the overall feeling of the board can help me direct, guide, and sometimes even edit in a way that’s aligned with your vision!

Did you know the number one area weddings run late is in the getting ready portion?!

After capturing dozens of weddings, i’ve put together a few tips to ensure your morning stays on schedule, avoids stresses, and you get back photos you love:

‌

💃🏼1. Team Effort: Work closely with your hair and makeup team to create a realistic schedule. Factor in buffer time for any unexpected delays and be open to hiring a second makeup artist if needed!

💍 2. Early Start: Begin each step earlier than you think you should. It’s better to have spare time than to rush through essential moments! I usually allot at least 30 min just for getting into the dress, shoes, etc. and all the photos that go with it.

☀️ 3. Location Matters: Choose a well-lit, clutter-free space for getting ready photos. Natural light works wonders! Designate a space for belongings to ensure your getting ready area stays organized.

📱 4. Unplug & Savour Moments: Consider having a phone-free zone during getting ready. It really keeps everyone present in the exciting moments! Plus then you don’t have bridesmaids on their phones in half your photos 😂

⏰ 5. Assign Roles: Appoint someone as your “timekeeper” within your bridal party to keep an eye on the clock and gently remind everyone to stay on track. This probably won’t be your wedding planner as they usually start later or have other things to do for you at this time!

🥹 6. Embrace Emotions: Tears and nerves are part of the magic! Let your emotions shine; you’ll be fully present in the moment. Oh and trust your photographer to capture it all 😉

🎵 7. Have fun & Enjoy: It’s your day, and it’s going to be incredible! Take a deep breath, soak it all in, and let the love flow. 🤍 Craft a playlist of all your favourite pump up jams and, most importantly, just enjoy the process!!

By following these tips, you’ll not only have a beautifully documented “getting ready” but also an stress-free, on-time start to your wedding day!

Annika + Cole’s close relationship with their families and friends was so obviously important to them, and was at the heart of their whole day!

From all the kiddos present, including their own lil Jude, to the retro phone guest book, and the focus on just having a great time with their favourite people.

Annika was my very first bride last year to request film and it was SO special to finally be able to capture their day on film as well as digital.

“Do I need a second shooter?”

Probably my number one most requested topic 🙌🏻 As we’re in inquiry/booking season (hello fall 🍂) I thought I would answer with a few of my thoughts!

It completely depends on your day but here are a few situations to help get you thinking:

1. Separate getting ready locations
If you’re getting ready in different spots and would like both of you to be captured (I recommend!) then it could be useful to have a second shooter!

2. Less time with the wedding party
If you opt out of a first look, the second shooter could help get all those wedding party photos done more efficiently and get you back to your guests! Or if you just want to spend less time in the afternoon on formal photos, this is a great option.

3. A very short ceremony
If you’re of the mindset that you’d like the ceremony to be “as short as possible” but would still like to see lots of photos of guest reactions or a variety of angles from the ceremony then a second shooter might be a good idea for this part of the day!

4. Family Photos
I love having a second shooter during family photos, especially if you have a big family! While we take the obligatory (and worth it!) formal shots, the second photographer can be getting fun candids of your guests!

5. Speeches
Most of the time I can cover the entire reception on my own, with lots of variety! However, it can be nice to have a second photographer if you’d like lots of guest reactions to speeches etc.

Honestly though, the best way to decide is to tell your photographer what you value most on your day and in your final gallery! They can direct you on what the best choice would be for you! 🥰

And just like that - I got married 🤍

It was honestly such an amazing day; we had mimosas and macarons for getting ready, time to play lawn games with our wedding party, Breton got to be part of our day, and of course, flower men.

The Polaroids were poppin, our signature drinks were a hit, and we had a pizza cut instead of cake!

I could honestly go on and on about all the fun things we planned and the memories that we made. But what really sticks with me was having the best people around us and feeling 100% ourselves the whole day. I wouldn’t change a thing 🥰

When I first got engaged everyone was telling me things like: “your day will go by so fast” and “you won’t have time to visit with all of your guests”.

That was not cool with me 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had always envisioned my wedding day as a gathering of all my favourite people, there to celebrate my love and share in the excitement of committing to my best friend.

After all, it's not often all your favourite people are in one place to celebrate YOU!

Over the last year and a half ive basically made it my mission to put together an intentional timeline for the day 😂

I’ve been attempting to plan our wedding in a way that let me spend time with the people I love most!

You deserve a day that allows you do to the things you value most, whether that's time with guests, going to get ice cream or grab a cocktail, or bringing your dog along for the ride. I've been where you are, and I’m passionate about helping you create a timeline that lets you enjoy the day the way you want.

What I care about most as your photographer is capturing your wedding day in a way that’s true to you as a couple - as authentically and candidly as possible!!

MIKAYLA + SPENCER — what an intentional and authentic day ✨

Things I want to remember from their celebration:

+ The absolutely stunning location of their family-owned (which meant all the florals were grown and designed by them as well!!)

+ Their private vows that had me tearing up behind the camera… an honour to capture something so special for them

+ They included their pup Hunter (.the.sheppie ) in their day, he walked with the ring bearer (mostly) during the ceremony and was present for both formal photos AND the party at the reception later!!

+ Outdoor, standing reception complete with vintage couches, a polaroid guest book, and TWO grazing tables

+ The late night snack of dozens of McDonalds burgers

+ Spencer’s brother Kirby ending the night with some impromptu karaoke of Dancing Queen

This day was truly so stunning and made my little aesthetic heart flutter…but more importantly, this day felt so full of love, connection, and joy.

Here’s to capturing more days like yours Mik + Spencer 🤍

How about for your engagement session you take me along on your bike ride?

Basically how all of this started when Heather told me this was one of her and Ryan’s favourite things to do together!

They took me for a lil tour around Fort Whyte to some of their favourite spots, it was like a pub crawl but with scenic spots and a bike 😂

I feel like a lot of times we see posed or staged photos with bikes on insta or Pinterest but this was a legit bike ride date! It’s so much more meaningful when you can make a few memories while ALSO getting some rad photos by yours truly ✌🏼

Can’t wait to celebrate these two getting married in less than 2 weeks!
