Hans Arnold Photography

Hans Arnold Photography The Studio is to give the visitors a virtual opportunity to purchase Hans Arnold's art.

Hans Arnold has been photographing for 42 years, traveling from his home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, located in the prairies of Canada. Born and raised in Germany for the first ten years of his life his family then moved to Canada in 1959 where he quickly learned about visual adaptations by drawing, painting and gradually moving into the art of photography. He has been photographing professionally sinc

e 1979 while holding a full time job as a Facilities Project Manager in a large Manitoba school division. Since his retirement in July 2009, he has immersed himself into becoming a premier outdoor photographer, lecturer, teacher and workshop presenter. He now teaches school children, as a consultant, the art of seeing the world through a camera. His courses have enriched the lives of thousands of children and hundreds of adults through comprehensive workshops designed to teach from the basics to the intermediate level. Hans is called upon to lecture at all the Manitoba camera clubs as well as organizations connected to the tourism trade, corporations, associations, and most recently, before the Covid-19 Pandemic, several local camera clubs in Mesa and Phoenix, Arizona. He is a renowned photo judge for numerous events including the Air Canada enRoute Photo Contest, the Manitoba Camera Club including their public critiques and the Manitoba Red River Exhibition Photo Contest. His active role in giving back what he has learned is one of his inspirations to explore the art of photography in new and skilful ways. This process has assisted in creating his unique style of picture taking and has taught him to become prolific and updated in the fast moving world of digital processing. He is self-taught in wide format print technology and produces most of his fine art décor work including his own framing from his home base. His current genre of photography is mainly outdoor imagery that includes landscapes, nature in large or small scale, urban, wildlife, and people with a high degree of facial character. A solid mix of interests that has allowed him to produce a best seller coffee table book “ Wish You Were Here, A Photographic Journey of the Canadian Landscape “ in 2004. His latest new coffee table book graced the shelves of bookstores in October 2013 titled “ UpNorth, Manitoba’s Last Frontier “, which highlights his latest works of images taken in his own province. It was the best selling book in its category at McNally Robinson Booksellers twice during 2014 and has been used by Friesen Printers in a Canada wide entry at the 2014 Canadian Printing Awards Gala and won gold in the “Offset / Hardcover Printing” category. It is now on the Canadian best-seller list for a self published coffee table book. It is not unusual that Hans travels from his home base many times a year. From 2007 to 2019 he has journeyed to the Ukraine, Scotland, Germany, France, Ireland, several times to Africa and at least half of the states in the USA, including all the provinces in Canada. He has inventoried over 100,000 usable images that have produced numerous workshops, presentations and stock images for many publications and calendars across Canada. He continues to photograph the landscape and its cultures wherever he and his partner have the desire to travel, whether it is for personal reasons or for assignments. Most of his work is printed and sold as limited edition fine art for personal décor and for corporate, government and cliental who are simply attracted to his unique style and subject matter. His work is showcased across Canada and the United States and is regarded among some of the finest photographs available from a Canadian photographer.

Photoshop is an artists palette, never disappoints as long as one is committed to being a creative.

The original bottles photographed in New York City, turned into an impressionistic style and then several layers of clipping masks applied from PNG files created with images I photographed from various details.

Charolais Bull - An interesting animal to photograph for its furry head. I added several layers of background textures to blend in with the composition and then printed a 24"x24" on Artistic Mat Canvas finished with a satin acrylic coating. It will be framed in a 3/4" float mount wood frame and displayed in my upcoming Winnipeg shows.

CRAZY HORSE MEMORIAL • Black Hills • South Dakota • USA • September 28, 2024

We completed the 5 kilometre VolksMarch to the top of the Crazy Horse Memorial on a very hot and steep climb just to say we did it. I was affected by the elevation of 6,532 feet above sea level not being climatized from our 784 feet in Winnipeg. Breathing was a bit laboured but not uncomfortable knowing that we would descend soon enough.

What an experience to touch the actual carved stone of the memorial. Such history of this remarkable project can only be experienced by either seeing it with your own eyes or study it in books or on-line.

This project has started in 1948 and is only 1/3 complete. Most of the mountain has been blocked out for the remaining segments which is the major requirement and the work today has been elevated to be completed with much more modern equipment and advanced technology.

When you look at what has been accomplished it is difficult to comprehend how the carving has been done with dynamite, chisel and the genius of people.

2024 Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup

Three out of 60 horseback wranglers driving a herd of 1400 buffalo across the rolling plains of the Black Hills.

The 25,000 spectators were at a safe distance which meant long telephoto lenses. This image is a 50% crop through the dust, handheld with VR and waveform distortion which is perfect for my painterly-like transformation.

An 800mm telephoto image of the Mentasta Mountains that form the northern boundary of Wrangler-St. Elias National Park & Preserve in eastern Alaska.

Image taken 1 year ago while travelling with my brother through the Yukon, North West Territories and Alaska. It was difficult forming a style of photography with such magnificent scenery at every turn. My interests were more in general scenic shots as well as dynamic details such as this one.
