🏔️✨ What if I told you, you could have family photos like these, just by taking a simple walk with me. Would you believe me? I hope so because it’s true!!

For me, it’s all about the details. Since rebranding last year, Iza from and I have dreamt up and eliminated a number of packaging options for my albums.

This week we finally agreed this natural brown paper screen printed (by Iza herself!) with my Logo and mountain scene motif was the winner!!

It was important that the package was not a burden for my clients. I didn’t want them to have to discard of boxes or hang onto linen bags with my logo just because it was too nice to throw away. So we settled on this fully recyclable gift wrap that they should not even feel guilty about tearing in their excitement to see their album, and here we are! Success!

Right. It's about time I pull my socks up and get back to work here. I've had some much needed time off over the holidays to decompress and reflect on what a year 2021 was for Amanda Joy Photography, and trust me, it was needed.

When I pulled all the numbers together from last year....and even though I knew I had worked almost non-stop in 2021.....the final tallies gave me such a shock it literally left me lying on the floor....(all be it with my clothes on and not naked like Natalie Imbruglia in Torn), and then two kids and a puppy sat on top of me, because .

✨This is the story of a little business that could.✨

Every day I am grateful for the people it has connected me to, the clients I have the privilege to serve and friends who have championed me along the way. I can thrive only because of you.

I arrived in Switzerland 10 years ago as a trailing spouse, effectively unemployable. I created a space for myself here. I made myself a job I love in a foreign country where my knowledge of the local language is basic at best. I have no university education and have never taken a formal business course in my life. I have built it all part-time around raising babies (and now a puppy!) while learning German on the side.

Pride is not an emotion I allow myself to feel much. When I accomplish something I usually gloss over it and just get on with the next task at hand, but today I think I might just treat myself and sit in this accomplishment for a little longer than I usually do...even if it makes me a little uncomfortable. Anyone else have trouble patting themselves on the back too?

Well team……that’s a wrap!! 💥

Earlier this week I delivered my final client gallery for 2021. 🎉 I have officially hung up the camera and am enjoying a longer cup of tea each morning before heading outside to spend some time with Roxy Pops.

So, what’s next? I’m currently planning out 2022 and how I can prioritise the sessions I love shooting most…that’s you families and couples! But for the next 30 days I plan on taking it S..L..O..W. 🐌 And possibly eating my body weight in cookies! 🍪

Keep your fingers crossed for a good dumping of snow here in Basel, because the next time i pick up my camera I hope it’s to shoot some gorgeous families enjoying a city snow day! My Snow Day *Pop-Up* Mini Session can only happen at the very last minute when we’ve had a good dumping of snow in the city and you need to be on my mailing list to be the first to know if these are taking place. There are more details on my website.

Fun fact!

Most (not all, but certainly most) of the clients who book mountain photos with me don’t live in Switzerland! 😎

For a few years I’ve been trying to put my finger on why that is. As Swiss residents, are we complacent about the playground we have in our backyard? Or is it because with all the other things happening in our lives, making a trip to the mountains for a photo shoot just seems too overwhelming and exhausting to tackle?

Whatever the reason, mountain sessions continue to be on a large number of tourists bucket lists and I am only to happy to help them check it off.

But never has there been a family more persistent to make it happen than this one! After initially booking photos for the summer of 2020, we sadly had the dreaded pandemic postponement. Finally vaccines started rolling out and this family stayed the course to make it to Switzerland in 2021. We weren’t even sure if they would be allowed to enter Switzerland leading up to our session date, but with everything booked and with fingers and toes crossed, the borders finally opened to tourists just 10 days or so before they were due to depart! 🙌🏼

Once they arrived there was nothing but low cloud and drizzle on our shoot day, but there was no way I was letting them leave without their once in a lifetime Matterhorn experience!

On the morning they were due to leave Zermatt for Italy, we woke up to this Blue Bird day and made this truly memorable experience happen!

Right now, I’m beginning to plan out the days I will be in the mountains for sessions in 2022. If you could go anywhere in Switzerland for a photo shoot, where would you go? Let me know in the comments below! ⬇️

Today’s my birthday! 🥳 21 times around the sun……twice!

To say it’s been a heck of a year is an understatement. I have delivered twice as many shoots this year than my previous best year and served two new schools. All year I’ve been living by the mantra “I just need to get through the next three weeks”, except the end of those three weeks never arrived.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I have LOVED every minute of it. I have worked so hard to get to this stage in business and when I reflect back on all the wonderful people this little business of mine has connected me to, I am beyond grateful. Acts of service is my love language and delivering photos that tell each clients story in ways they’ve never seen themselves before, highlighting the love, joy, fun and ease they have with their loved ones is something that brings me so much satisfaction.

It has however come at a personal cost, I can probably count on one hand how many weekends I’ve had without a session booked this year, and I’m missing out on creating new memories with my own family. We are not having the adventures my husband and I dreamed of having with our little family and our goal is to change that in 2022.

I’m not going anywhere, but I will be shooting less family and couples sessions on the weekends in 2022. Session availability will be limited next year - by almost half 😅 - with first pick of dates going to my existing clients. Once those have been booked, any remaining dates will be offered first to my mailing list and then announced here on social media. ✨

Pop-up Mini Sessions will also be back on the cards too! Those sessions are also announced first to exisiting clients and my mailing list, so please be sure to be on that list to snag your spot this year. I will 🔗 the sign up form in my profile.

But today, today is for spending time with all my besties who don’t currently have to quarantine, which pretty much just leaves me, the kids, Roxy Pops and Loaner Dog Lolli 😂.

The end of year countdown is on and I’m looking forward to finishing it out strong before taking a well deserved reset break in the New Year.

I’m so glad that I never completely ruled out shooting maternity pics of gorgeous Mamas-to-be wearing long flowy dresses because I for sure would be cutting my nose off to spite my face!

A dream session that makes me proud of how far I’ve come. And shout out to this lady who braved the unseasonably cool temps for the sake of art!
