The World Championships opening ceremony is a great way to see not only the variety of nations competing but also honoring the traditions surrounding this great breed. The passing of the torch, host nation exhibitions and even a special line dance display to this year’s ever catchy theme song. I loved seeing how each of the countries showed up even if they only had a couple riders. And of course, I had to feature our small but mighty Team USA!

Finishing out the PP1 test is Block 2’s riders. These pairs continue to show the diversity in the Icelandic horse gene pool and the immense talent from the various participating countries. This was such an amazing group to start off the World Championships here in Switzerland.

Huge congratulations to World Champions Laura Enderes & Fannar von der Elschenau!! Their test was beautiful to watch and a well deserved win!

On Tuesday before opening ceremonies, we got to see the Icelandic horse doing what they do best…flying pace. PP1 - Pace Test Block 1 had some amazing riders to open the show with. The variety of colors, compositions and expressions of focus made editing this gallery so fun! I did my best to tag or list the riders but if I missed someone, please let me know!

This is Cora Wijmans & Remba frá Skógi from the Netherlands team. She is 80 years young and killing it competing in Pace at the World Championships. This is my second time seeing her compete at a WC and I’m in awe every time. She’s incredibly inspiring and I hope to one day be as fearless as her.

Hey friends! I know it’s been a while. According to insta…over a year ago was my last update. It feels like it was just yesterday but also a lifetime ago. So in the spirit of transparency…I wanted to share some life updates.

The biggest one is…I moved to Germany! Yes, you read that right. In May of this year, my dog, kitty and me hopped on a plane and started our new lives in Bavaria. To say it has been a roller coaster of an adventure would be underselling it. This plan has been in works since September and I still am in shock that this is my life now. But so incredibly grateful.

During this time, I had to take a step back from a lot of things that gave me joy. I ended my lease with my sweet baby Villingur (even tho his owners are the best and let me visit him anytime I need a cuddle), stopped riding and didn’t even pick up my camera. The old day job was increasingly demanding and slightly soul crushing but this new one is everything I could dream for.

Now I’m back. I have some old shoots to finish editing (eternally thankful for patient clients who are incredibly understanding) and a HUGE event next week that I’m so excited for. I don’t know what the future holds for KDM in Germany but I’m looking forward to the adventure. ♥️🐴🇩🇪

Getting to watch some of the best Icelandic horses & riders in the world compete is a dream come true. It has been such an amazing weekend so far especially with the gorgeous sunny weather here in Reykjavík!

I couldn’t help myself and brought my gear with me “just in case”. I was able to capture some incredibly talented riders like Flosi Ólafsson riding Röðull frá Haukagili Hvítársíðu during the Tölt T1 Bfinals last night.

Can’t wait to see what magic I see tonight!!

Lately, I’ve been wanting to stretch out of my comfort zone in equine photography and explore other niche’s I’ve always been fascinated by but never had the opportunity to be a part of. My friend mentioned she was attending a cow sorting clinic last Saturday and I decided to tag along with my camera. Everyone was so welcoming and even though the cows kept staring into my soul (like literally…it was highly unnerving), I had a fantastic time! I’d love to support some local shows/barns around the Portland area so if you have any coming up that you’ll be riding in please let me know! 😁🐴

A gentle reminder to take the photo no matter the moment. A horse gets to be part of our lives for a short time but if we’re lucky, they get to spend their whole lives with us. Make every second count.

So take the photos, stay in the moment and enjoy every breath you have with them. Especially if you get to frolic around in a field of tulips at sunset.♥️
