The French Alps are truly a paradise for landscape photography, especially in the southern part. While we don’t have wilderness areas like Alaska, Patagonia, the Himalayas, or Canada, the southern French Alps feature some truly wild valleys that offer a unique vibe and make me want to explore every corner. You’ll find jagged peaks, glaciers, wildflowers, endless streams and rivers, and stunning lakes. It’s an underrated gem, which is good because it means no tourists, only local hikers and mountaineers.

f you follow my Instagram stories, you might remember this day. But I’ll repeat: there are many things you can do to improve your photography before you even touch the camera. Continuously study the weather, watch for the snowline in satellite images, and spend time on Google Earth. This can greatly enhance your mountain photography. I had no plans to be here that day; I was supposed to be in the Swiss Alps. However, the weather forecast showed a big thunderstorm clearing up before sunset. What does that mean? The best light you can imagine. The satellite images confirmed that these peaks had the perfect amount of snow for photography. Things could have turned out differently, but this time, everything aligned perfectly.
