Beautiful location for our installation Swept away by the undertow. This time directly on the water within an urban setting.

Our work is exploring the cyclical relationship between water, the human body, and urban space. The work invites us to understand water as a living, shared presence rather than a passive resource. What does it mean to grant water agency? How can we listen to it?

For the visual component, Anna-Tia Buss photographed water surfaces on analog film. Before development, the exposed film strips were soaked in her own urine, a gesture that intertwines bodily fluid with bodies of water. The resulting images are printed on textile and form the heart of the installation: aesthetic images made from what is commonly considered “waste.” Leonie Fritsch composed an accompanying soundscape from field recordings, spoken text, and piano. Voices of the water intertwine with personal reflections. The sounds unfold slowly, inviting pause and close listening. 🤗

Visitors can share their own thoughts via an online form. These will be collected and woven into the soundscape over the course of the exhibition. A QR code also allows visitors to dive directly into the soundworld.

I’ll be showing the project Swept Away by the Undertow which is an immersive installation that traces the shared cycles of water, bodies, and urban life.
The photographic works, which I captured over several months along the Limmat River in Zürich, were made using an analogue process in which the film is soaked in urine, then developed. Entwining bodily fluids with river water. This intimate gesture foregrounds transformation, exchange, and continuity. Complementing the visuals, created a sound composition using field recordings and spoken words. Visitors are invited to participate in the reflection through an online tool; their contributions gradually merge into the evolving soundscape.
Printed on textile and suspended within a wooden frame, the images form a space for listening and contemplation. The river is encountered not as a resource, but as a living presence – one that flows through cities, infrastructures, and human bodies alike. ✨✨
