This was my first time using a macro lens! I brought it on a hike few days ago hoping to photograph a few insects.

Little did I know I would be able to witness a spider on a hunt! I never thought I’d encounter something like this in my life!

As I was observing the caterpillar closely through my viewfinder a huge shadow suddenly appeared in the frame 🕷.

I followed the spider with my lens and watched it carefully sneaking behind the caterpillar before biting it from the back. It held on for a good minute or two as the prey tried to escape.

By now, I’m used to watching nature being nature, but being able to observe it closely right in front of my face have led me to a new level of appreciation.

If anyone know the names of the species in the photos throughout this macro series, please don’t hesitate to let me know! This is all very new to me! 🕷🦋🐝 ✨ @ Hong Kong

One-Eyed Prince

This subadult lion cub most likely got into a fight with an adult lion before getting kicked out along with his four brothers - few of them also display similar injuries.

Last post of the series! Hope you enjoyed this new editing style!

I really enjoyed experimenting and will probably come back to this look in the future! @ Masai Mara National Reserve

Spotted this leopardess before sunrise on the first morning of my trip in Sep 2019.

It was so dark and I only caught her snow-white tail in my peripheral. She led me to this spot you as the sun was rising. She then sat down elegantly facing me, fortunately, and looked around for a few minutes before taking off and went into hunting mode.

This encounter was my longest close up experience (shot on 400mm) with a leopard and because the savannah was still sleeping I was able to hear every step she made and all the little sounds that caught her attention.

Being the only vehicle, keeping our distance and minimising our movement I was able to observe her behaviour in her natural habitat. Although, one photo will never do the scene justice, I hope you get a glimpse of where these magnificent creatures truly belong.

Brothers watch out for each other.

Male lions reach sexual maturity at about two years of age. As testosterone increases, they start picking fights with their father. Eventually, they get kicked out to survive on their own. Since siblings often get kicked out at similar time they stay together forming bachelor prides as seen in this photo - these are two out of the group of five.

Until they form their own prides, these brothers will most likely stay together to maximise chances of survival.

A relatively uncommon sight I finally got to witness with my own eyes!
A leopard with its kill - this time featuring an impala.

I haven’t posted a photo with carcasses in a long time and I think with the editing I’m trying out this week it’s good time to bring one in.
Let me know what you think. Should I post more on this side of nature? 🖤

Lion - the symbol of courage to the Maasais.

The male lion is the protector of the pride.
They roar to claim their land and fight to protect it with their lives.

With only around 20,000 in the wild and decreasing, conservation effort is much needed for these sociable big cats.

Threats:
Habitat loss and fragmentation, illegal wildlife trade, human wildlife conflict, and extraction.
