JAVIER CARDONA, director, IndigoOne, Bogota, Colombia:

Javier Cardona is an industrial designer with more than 25 years of experience leading Latin American companies in the conference, exhibition, and live marketing industries with a focus on strategic thinking. He specializes in professional international exhibitions and event marketing, production, design, and architectural solutions.

Some of his most exciting projects have been developed for the World Petroleum Congress in Qatar, South Africa, Spain, and Russia. At Exposistemas Peru, Cardona successfully modernized a 40-year-old pioneering Latin American exhibition company, completely restructuring the organization, rebranding it, and repositioning it in international markets (ultimately growing their sales and profits by 23 percent since coming on board).

Cardona’s greatest achievements at InterExpo Colombia were successfully winning and maintaining the top three Colombian customers for international projects (Ecopetrol, ANH National Hydrocarbon Agency, and Juan Valdez in association with the National Federation of Coffee Makers), with an average annual growth rate of 18 percent. He ultimately grew the company’s portfolio of clients to be the largest in the Andean region and certified the company’s commercial and design processes under ISO 9001 standards, making it the first company in Latin America to do so.

Cardona was also the producer of the Stakeholders’ General Assembly for Ecopetrol Colombia, the largest private-sector event in South America, from 2008 to 2015.

TIPS ON HOW TO MAKE YOUR SMALL BOOTH BIG IN IMPACT!

When it comes to the success of your booth, size isn´t really the main important thing. Focus on:

1. Using Creative materials for your walls: How about a big black chalkboard wall that invites users to draw on it? Think outside the box, no matter what the size is: Post-it graphic walls, cardboard, or other commonly uses materials can be the turn key to have all eyes on you.
2. Guerrilla Marketing Strategies: What about drawing attention outside of your limited physical area? Guerrilla Marketing tactics can be the way for you to get the attention you need.
3. Extend your reach: Everybody likes giveaways. Try to focus in promotional giveaways that can easily showcase your brand like bracelets, big stickers, or wearables.
4. Interaction, Interaction, INTERACTION: Not all brands are easy to display, you should try to find a way to create booth traffic, allowing visitors to interact with your products or services. Not only will you generate interest, but you will be creating a better understanding of what you are about.

The hidden soul of materials.

Unexpected and winner designs usually come from the idea of noticing the true soul behind a material and not following rules.

The New York-based firm for Interni Magazine´s Material Immaterial exhibition designed a Wave/Cave installation as part of this year`s Milan Design Week. Made up completely of terracota blocks, the installation provided visitors of a calm and beautiful designed space.
