Arizona raised me. It taught me how to heal, showed me what real support looked like, and gave me a sense of freedom I still chase. Windows down, music blasting, pulling off the road for one more sunset.

It challenged me too. There were times I needed to leave it to become who I was supposed to become. But looking at these photos, I miss it more than I expected.

I’m not done with the desert yet. I don’t know when our paths will cross again, but Arizona will always feel like home. |

Ladies and gentlemen, Andrew Shainker Photography has arrived.

And by arrived, I mean Photo 16. British Vogue.

Is the photo roughly the size of a quaint London studio apartment? Yes. Is the placement legendary? Also yes.

The iconic Fur & Fabel photo has officially crossed the Atlantic and landed in British Vogue, which means we will be absolutely unbearable about this for the foreseeable future.

Fur & Fabel by the legendary Chris Ehl. Buy the bag. Frame the Vogue. Alert the press.

We’re in British Vogue, baby.

Bahía Solano is only an hour from Medellín, but somehow one of the most adventurous trips I’ve ever taken.

Am I almost 40 and staying in a hostel? Yes.
Do I have what feels like third-degree sunburns and several unidentified rashes? Also yes.
Did I hike through the jungle, question several life choices, and photograph poison dart frogs? Absolutely.

Almost 40. Still getting lost. Still taking photos. Still completely obsessed with seeing what’s out there.

Near or far, I don’t think that part of me is ever changing. |

My photography used to hit different.

I wasn’t chasing perfect lighting, the newest camera, or the latest editing trend. I just walked up to people, smiled, asked with my eyes and my presence, and clicked.

Not because I wanted to take something from them.

Because, for a split second, we saw each other.

That’s the part of photography I never want to lose.

Lately, everything feels a little too polished. Too generated. Too optimized. Somewhere along the way, we started confusing perfection with connection.

Give me the wrinkles. The bad hair day. The crooked smile. The laugh that wasn’t supposed to happen. The photo that feels like a memory instead of an advertisement.

Technology is incredible. I use it every day. But no algorithm has ever replaced the feeling of one human truly seeing another.

Maybe that’s what we’re all searching for anyway.

To be seen. |

Travel has taught me that “it’s only a 2.5-hour bus ride” is a sentence I say far too often. Country #104: Pärnu, Estonia. No regrets. |
