From Episode 2 of Bird and Bike!

While riding our bikes we found a cool bird: a Roseate Spoonbill. I haven’t seen many of these birds here in Costa Rica! One of the joys of birding is you never know what bird you’ll find. You can see the full episode of this Bird and Bike on my profile.

I’m 3 months in as the Science Storytelling Fellow at .

3 months and I’m still not used to the wildness, biodiversity, and beauty of this forest and ocean.

3 months and still my mind is blown by the amount of innovation, passion, and hard work this entire team puts into protecting and restoring wild places and the animals that live in them.

3 months and I still keep learning about people from all backgrounds and projects of all kinds that give me hope and inspire me to keep my nose to grind stone, to strive to do this work justice, to do my best in the name of conservation, and to tell stories that will move others to do the same.

A little behind the scenes of my post yesterday. Every so often, as I waded around the pond, I would find a tree frog going for a ride on my camera. I had one in particular that stayed on top of my monitor for 30 minutes. Fancied himself a bit of a director I suppose.

We at have an opportunity to win an incredible tool for conservation. If you could take 30 seconds of your day to vote, might award us a world leading mapping drone (link in my bio)
We are attempting to protect and restore thousands of acres of rainforest. This drone is perfect for tracking the changes of these ecosystems as we plant almost a million trees and re-wild vital corridors for the wildlife of Costa Rica.
Help contribute to the conservation of one of the most bio-intense places on the planet!

Despite being a beloved animal around the world, hippos are considered one of the most dangerous creatures in Africa. They are responsible for more deaths than any top mammal predator. But where is this coming from? What’s going on in that big round head? In this episode we’re talking all about hippos, about their lives and what possibly makes them so dangerous. Are they just killing machines? Are they misunderstood? Or is it something more complicated, that lies in between, just under the surface of the murky water.
