This photo of an ocelot in the Pumas Rescue Center in Canas, Costa Rica was one of the great treasures I had photographing in Cost Rica and preparing the book Nature's Paradise - Costa Rica (http://b2l.bz/VDp27f). It is with mixed emotions that I must now say that this book has been sold out (there may still be a few copies available on line), and will probably not be re-printed. I had the great fortune of collaborating with Marco Saborio on this project, and I learned more than I wanted to about the publishing industry. I was honored that the book received a Book-of-the-Year award for Nature. I am sorry that the visual experiences shown in the book may not be further available in hard copy, but I will continue to present slide lectures based on the book, to show the wonderful world that is Costa Rica. My thanks to all who helped with this project and to all who purchased the book.

The Salty Spinetail. This little bird of the Cost Rica wet lowlands and foothills is common but not often seen because it stays in the underbrush. Other birds of Costa Rica are shown in my book at http://b2l.bz/VDp27f -- Biológica El Copal

Photos Help Animal Rescue & Adoptions. While most of my photography has been of birds and other wildlife, I have recently been working to help promote adoption of rescued cats and dogs -- their photos are needed for various internet pet search sites. Herbie, an adoptable cat is shown here.
This is a type of community service I encourage other photographers to consider because working photographers understand the role of subject presentation (especially eyes), lighting and background control, highlight and shadow control, and color adjustments needed with mixed lighting. A good photo can really help an animal's chances to be interviewed and adopted. It can be very rewarding -- please help if you can.
You can see some of my rescue cats in an album on my personal page at https://www.facebook.com/doug.goodell.9/media_set?set=a.133137743563898.1073741829.100006030183277&type=3

This is for those who may not have seen the Silver Medal Award announcement on my personal page:

The Foreword Reviews’ IndieFab Book of the Year Awards, judged by a select group of librarians and booksellers from around the country, were announced on June 27 at the American Library Association Annual Conference in Las Vegas. Representing hundreds of independent and university presses of all sizes, IndieFab winners were selected after months of editorial deliberation over more than 1,500 entries in 60 categories.
I am pleased to say that my book with Marco Saborio: "Nature's Paradise - Costa Rica" was a finalist in the Photographic category and a Silver Medal winner in the Nature category.
