The palm tanager (Thraupis palmarum) is a medium-sized passerine bird. This tanager is a resident breeder from Nicaragua south to Bolivia, Paraguay, and southern Brazil.
It also breeds on Trinidad and, since 1962, on Tobago. In Trinidad and Tobago, it is known by colloquial names such as the “palmiste,” on American Spanish countries (Colombian p**n: “pūlmist”), Brazil Pipira-verde (Portuguese p**n: “pəəpəərā-værd”), and the “green jean” in American English.

This pair of Tropical Kingbirds (Tyrannus melancholicus) was attacking a Short-tailed Hawk (Buteo brachyurus).
This may have been because the hawk was lingering near their nest, had previously attacked them, or simply because they weren’t comfortable with its presence and decided to drive it away… not without giving it a bit more action to remember.

First time photographing both species… and what a moment!
