Meet Costa Ricas largest Glass Frog (Sachatamia ilex) - commonly known as the Ghost Glass Frog 🐸

Famous for its hypnotizing white and blue eyes, with a range extending from Nicaragua down to Ecuador - it is usually found near streams where they lay their eggs on plants hanging above the water.

This individual was spotted by my friends and in Centromanu, Costa Rica when I was scouting the area before doing a workshop there. It’s such a magnificent species and definitely one of the most sought after frogs for wildlife enthusiasts visiting Costa Rica.

It’s been a minute since I last posted something here but don’t worry, all is well and I’ll get back to it soon. I’ve been in Europe visiting family and having a wonderful time.

In the meantime here is one of my favorite finds from this year, a truly incredible stick insect (Trychopeplus laciniatus) which I found in

I had been hoping to see this species for a long time which made it such an exciting moment to see it at last, it was a bit high up on a tree which made it almost impossible to get a good portrait so I gently brought it down onto another mossy branch where it quickly settled down and enabled me to get some nice focus stacks revealing all the stunning little details of this mind blowing creature! 😍😍

It is such a perfect camouflage that I still don’t know how I managed to spot it and I really hope I get to see another some day.

If you like my work please be sure to like, comment or even follow my account to see more incredible creatures photographed up close, no BS and no AI, just pure magic from Mother Earth! 🌎

This beautiful cryptic Katydid was so perfectly blended in that it took me a moment to spot it on this mossy leaf, it had prepared a small opening in the moss where it fitted perfectly! Sometimes you really need to look closely to find some of these camouflaged species, but at the speed at which I tend to move when doing macro I have plenty of time to inspect every little detail of every leaf. 😍

15 Spider portraits that’ll knock your socks off! 🕷️

Spiders are one of the most feared animals on earth yet only a few of them are considered to be potentially dangerous to humans. The vast majority are completely harmless and pose no threat to us but they are all crucial to their ecosystem helping to keep it balanced by regulating insect population and therefore reducing disease transmission.

So let’s show these fascinating creatures a bit of love and respect! 😍❤️

Web-footed Gecko
(Pachydactylus rangei)

This magnificent Gecko inhabits the dune belts of the Namib Desert and has evolved these amazing webbed feet to help it navigate the loose sand and to rapidly dig burrows as a means to escape predators and the heat of the day.

A truly incredible little desert dweller and one of my favorite geckos too! 😍😍

The incredible Crowned Tree Frog 🐸👑
(Triprion spinosus)

During our workshop in with one of our target species was this absolute beauty of a frog! It can be a difficult species to find but this is one of the best spots for it so we were all very happy to get the opportunity to photograph them!

It is a very large frog and those patterns as well as the crown are just so amazing! There’s something almost monkey like to it and I absolutely love it 😍😍

One of my favorite finds from our workshop in with was this amazing stalk-eyed fly (Richardia telescopica). Known in Costa Rica as mosca cabeza de ma****lo or the Hammerhead fly.
I definitely squeaked like a fan girl at a pop concert and probably startled my students a bit but I really couldn’t contain the excitement 😂

It was my first time seeing this species and one I’d been hoping to see for many years so I decided to stay an extra night after the workshop so I could try my best at getting a decent shot. With lots of patience and persistence I followed them around and pushed my luck for several hours - surrounded by a huge swarm of army ants, which weren’t making my life easier. After many attempts I finally managed this small 4 image focus stack, it’s not exactly what I was hoping for but I’m still super stoked with the result and that I finally have a decent image of this enigmatic species!

Only the males have these incredibly long stalk eyes and they are used for competition between males over territory and females, the longest eye stalks win! It’s hard to think of any advantages of having these crazy eyes and would probably make it harder for their survival but it could actually improve their stereoscopic depth perception and maybe help them spot potential mates from further away.

Such a crazy looking insect and I’m so happy to have spent some time observing them in the jungle! 😍

Sosxetra grata is definitely one of my favorite moths, it’s so wild looking and so intricate with almost all the colors of the rainbow! It’s common name is Walkers Moth which is cool and all but I think it really doesn’t do it justice.. I think the Dobby Moth is catching on quite well as a new common name for the Bombycidae family and I feel we should find a new cuter name for this one too, what would you name this marvelous creature?
