(Probably) the most famous lens in the world, the Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm f/0.7 is a legendary camera lens, famous for bridging the gap between space exploration and cinema history. Developed by Zeiss in 1966 for the NASA Apollo lunar program to photograph the moon, it was later famously purchased by director Stanley Kubrick to shoot candlelight scenes in his 1975 film Barry Lyndon. Whether it was a hand me down SLR, a thrift store point-and-shoot, or your grandpa’s coveted rangefinder, every filmmaker begins their journey examining light and shape through the viewfinder of a still camera. ZEISS Camera Lenses is honored to have spent the last 130 years supporting the Photography and Filmmaking community on sets in LA and abroad and is thrilled to join Beers and Cameras LA to continue our legacy of community building and image making.

The ZEISS and B&C: LA teams invite all LA imagemakers to on Thursday June 4th from 6:30-9:30 PM for an evening of lens testing, portrait shooting, analog geekery, and so much more, including:

Otus ML, ZEISS ZM, Batis, Touit, and Milvus lenses will be available for testing at the Lens Bar!

A series of beautifully lit portrait bays will be provided by our friends and sponsors !

This year, ZEISS Camera Lenses is honored to sponsor the International Photography Council’s 2026 James L. Chung Memorial Scholarship program!

With ZEISS lenses in-hand a select group of student photographers have set out to capture images focused on the concept of “community building” in support of the IPC’s mission of promoting “Peace Through Photography, the Universal Language”.

A Horse.

A 40-mph trip down a snowy street in Leadville, CO.

Skijoring might be one of the most chaotic sporting events in Colorado and the perfect place to
test the Batis 2.8/135.

Fast action, unpredictable movement, and constantly changing vantage points made this event
a real test for any lens.

The reach, precision, and sharpness of the 135mm made it easy to isolate moments and
capture the energy of the sport.

“Some gear inspires you, and some gear pushes your creativity further than you expected. I felt privileged when asked me to test out their flagship and
lenses, so I decided to really put them through their paces.

I took them to low-light music venues to capture the energy of live shows, into the cold to photograph the vibrant colors of Colorado’s wintery sunrises and sunsets, and up to Leadville to capture the high-energy, high-speed action of skijoring.

“Good things come to those who plan” is an apt description for and his captured World Heritage Collection.

Many of these images often require months, if not years, of careful planning, research, and ultimately access, which has allowed Mario Basner to photograph some of the world’s most precious cultural heritage sites with extreme detail and precision.
