This is probably my favorite picture of this series, because it sums up the whole concept of the project. Everyone of the participants had to carry a rock from a pile to an altar. This ia also the last one I will share for this project.
The word šamán has its origins in the Evenki language and means as much as "to know" and only later became the umbrella term "shaman".
In 2018 I visited the six-day festival
"Call of 13 Shamans" in the Republic of Tuva/Siberia. There I collected personal impressions about the practice of contemporary shamanism and its rituals. In "Šamán" I dealt with the contradiction between authenticity and staging. The scene itself as well as the location
where it takes place leads me to spirituality in the present time and the following questions occupy me: Do I believe in intangible forces or is the feeling of humbug predominant?
Can I trust the person who draws on a thousand years of tradition to heal me?
In the exhibition, pictures are rhythmically composed next to each other in a wall-sized
corner projection in such a way that this contradiction is expressed in the form of an interplay.
In addition, a self-experiment is shown in the form
of a video in which a South American ritual is performed. You can hear the sounds in the background of the video. I decided to not include it here because of personal reasons and graphic content.
Exhibited at Neue Schule für Fotografie from the 18th of September to the 24th of October 2020 as part of our graduation exhibition “ATOPIE“.
