Teacher info:

Using a large format camera commonly used and built to document architecture and immobile themes, the Del Guidice uses it to make personal portraits as well.
The photographer started studying art at the Academia delle Belle Arti di Brera; subsequently he studied at the International Center of Photography in New York, where he studied with Alan Frame, Gerard Vezzuso and Amy Arbus, and came in contact with Alec Soth.
In Donato Del Guidice’s oeuvre, US American and Italian sensibilities are applied to the Middle European photographic view.
Del Guidice arrives at an understated vision of his generation and their urban surroundings, but introduces to this sober way of photographing an Italian poetic sense.

Workshop statement:

The large-format camera has unique features that influence the photographic process and the quality of the resulting image, offering greater pictorial control.
Large-format photography provides the possibility of creating extraordinarily clear images because of the larger film size and the photographer's ability to expose and process sheet film individually.

This four days workshop centered on two principal themes:
the practice of photographing with a large format camera,
and the theoretical and cultural implications of photography
nowadays.

During the workshop, we will focus on specific practical
capabilities of the large format camera, both in the urban
landscape and portrait, mixing it with the exploration of
the greatest contemporary art using photography as a mean of
expression.

About Donato del Giudice

Statement

The relationship between us and the surrounding space is inseparable.
Space built by man for man influences every day our mood and the way to act. Our living space becomes many times the portrait of ourselves.
The everyday life exposes us to continuous testing, which we can not escape.
The time that elapses between the moment of awakening and the resumption of a
new day is what most condenses spent emotions, intentions and hopes to come.
With a large format camera 8x10, Del Giudice portrays his generation in a daily intimacy.
