"Not photogenic?"
Huhu dears,
Today I got another picture from the window shoot with dear Lara. And when I was so peaceful eating bread this morning and waiting for her reaction to the picture, the bread almost got stuck in my throat. "I look so beautiful in the picture and I can't comprehend it", came in response to how she was completely upset. I'm sure you can imagine my confusion.
Because I'm the the type of person who's sad and can't comprehend when I look like a potato in a photo. 🙈
So I asked her once, and then I was quiet. To my question, I got the answer that she generally doesn't feel so good, not so pretty, not so special. As polt as I can be sometimes, of course, I have listed directly, all which is pretty about her: the freckles, the beautiful blue eyes, the nose, the porcelain skin, the white blonde hair and and and. Of course it didn't help. Because then the answer that actually comes from most of them is the reason for the problem: I have once again found out how not photogenic I am.
Not photogenic. How I hate this phrase.
I had to breathe through a deep breath, because there is nothing like not photogenic. I would like to tell you today exactly what I told Lara today. I asked Lara if I could include her today as an example. Because in fact, I hear that from people so often. This " I'm not photogenic."
But what do you mean? Many say that you look weird in all the pictures, seem weird by poses or having the eyes closed. In Principle, 'being not photogenic', rather describes the fact of several unfortunate incidents that do make a photo quite unsuccessful.
But! That doesn't mean anything but that you just don't have much experience in front of the camera. When you don't know which pose best for you. How to play with facial expressions and that you generally feel uncomfortable in front of cameras because you are unsure and did not get the right instructions.
That's why think there are no not photogenic people. There are only people who are unsure of themselves in front of the camera and who don't know exactly what to do with their hands and face and who unfortunately got into the bad situation that the guy or woman behind the camera knows just as little.
In reverse of course, that means that if you feel comfortable, well-kept and in good hands, you can think of yourself as the most ugly potato in the world and still get wonderful pictures. Because every person has his beautiful sides.
Of course, every photographer, every artist, every person has his preferences. But everyone thinks something else is beautiful, and so there are different beauty ideas.
But there is no such thing as not photogenic, just the lack of knowledge and or uncertainty on both sides of the camera.
I hope that today I could take the wrong thought from some of you, that you might be not photogenic. If you've only been unhappy with your pictures so far, it's probably because you haven't had the right person behind the camera yet. Because believe me, I have a lot of great colleagues who could prove that you're photogenic.
There may be some scared and some more gawky people, but never ugly or not photogenic! And intimidation and awkwardness can be fought.
