Die legendären The Flying Pickets starten ihre Deutschland Tournee in Coswig
1983. Es ist die Zeit, als die heute erfolgreichste a-ca****la-Formation ihren Siegeszug von London aus beginnt: Ein Song eroberte die Musikwelt. „Only You“ – bereits kurz zuvor als „Synthie-Pop“-Version von Vince Clark und Alison Moyet unter dem Projektnamen Yazoo veröffentlicht, erscheint die Aufnahme der The Flying Pickets in einem ganz neuen hörtechnischen Gewand, nämlich als a-ca****la-Version. Für die Band, ebenfalls erst kurz zuvor in London aus Mitgliedern der Theatergruppe 7:84 gegründet, begann ein musikalischer Höhenflug, der bis heute anhält.
Während Yazoo nur der 2.Platz der britischen Charts vergönnt wurde, stürmte die ungewöhnliche, weil einzigartige Version der Flying Pickets auf Anhieb bis zur Pole Position empor und blieb dort für 5 Wochen. „Only You“ wurde zum ersten A-ca****la-Chartstürmer in Großbritannien. Auch in Deutschland kletterte die Nummer auf Platz 1 der Single-Charts.
The Flying Pickets waren schnell auch in der DDR populär, das gipfelte u.a. in einem umjubelten Auftritt während des 6.Liedersommers auf der Insel der Jugend in Ost-Berlin, gemeinsam mit der ebenso erfolgreichen einheimischen Rockband Die Zöllner am 16.August 1988.
Auch im 45.Jahr ihres Bestehens sind die Musiker, die inzwischen mehrfach wechselten, aber ihrem musikalischen Konzept stets treu blieben, unermüdlich. Soeben erschien ihr neuestes Album „Onwards & Upwards“, mit dem sie auch auf Tour gehen. Es ist ein Aufbruch in die nächste Ära – live eine mitreißende Show voller Stimmgewalt und unverwechselbarem britischen Charme, eine einzigartige Mischung aus musikalischer Präzision, Spielfreude und augenzwinkerndem Humor.
Mal rockig und bombastisch, mal funky, soulig oder ganz intim – das Repertoire der Flying Pickets reicht von mitreißenden Pop-Hits über gefühlvolle Balladen bis zu überraschenden Neuinterpretationen bekannter Klassiker. Mit herausragender Gesangskunst, charmanten Arrangements und einer spürbaren Portion britischer Ironie präsentieren sie in der „Börse“ Coswig – ihrem diesjährigen Tourneestart – die neuen Songs aber auch viele Publikumslieblinge – darunter "Let Me Entertain You", "Englishman In New York", "Love Runs Out“ und natürlich den Song, mit dem alles begann: "Only You".

The legendary Flying Pickets kick off their German tour in Coswig
1983. It was the year that today's most successful a ca****la group began their triumphant march from London: One song conquered the music world. "Only You"—released shortly before as a synth-pop version by Vince Clarke and Alison Moyet under the project name Yazoo—appeared in a completely new sonic guise: an a ca****la version. For the band, also recently formed in London from members of the theater group 7:84, a musical ascent began that continues to this day.
While Yazoo only managed to reach number 2 in the British charts, the unusual, and indeed unique, version by the Flying Pickets stormed straight to the top spot and remained there for five weeks. "Only You" became the first a ca****la chart-topper in the UK. The song also climbed to number one on the German singles charts.
The Flying Pickets quickly became popular in East Germany as well, culminating in a triumphant performance during the 6th Song Summer Festival on the Island of Youth in East Berlin, alongside the equally successful East German rock band Die Zöllner on August 16, 1988.
Even in their 45th year, the musicians, who have undergone several lineup changes but have always remained true to their musical vision, are tireless. Their latest album, "Onwards & Upwards," has just been released, and they are currently touring in support of it. It marks the beginning of a new era – a captivating live show full of powerful vocals and unmistakable British charm, a unique blend of musical precision, infectious enthusiasm, and a touch of humor.
Even in their 45th year, the musicians, who have undergone several lineup changes but have always remained true to their musical concept, are tireless. Sometimes rocking and bombastic, sometimes funky, soulful, or deeply intimate – the Flying Pickets' repertoire ranges from rousing pop hits and heartfelt ballads to surprising reinterpretations of well-known classics. With outstanding vocals, charming arrangements, and a palpable dose of British irony, they will present their new songs as well as many audience favorites at the "Börse" in Coswig – the starting point of their tour this year – including "Let Me Entertain You," "Englishman In New York," "Love Runs Out," and, of course, the song that started it all: "Only You."
