The Stateless Mind Pavilion opens last week at Gwangju Biennale 재단법인 광주비엔날레 Gwangju Biennale Foundation. It’s been wonderful to be part of the group curated by CAD+SR and Kapallorek Art Space.

Out of 144 images, 12 are my faces. I photographed my head from 12 angles. I then asked the machine to generate faces from the self-portraits. An experiment. Based on my prompt, the generative AI model churns out 11 additional angles for each photograph of my face. 132 synthetic faces in total.

At first glance, the synthetic faces look normal. Generative AI fills in parts of my face obscured from the camera with statistical accuracy, but it keeps adding moles randomly onto my face. It can’t consistently generate my mole and accurately predict the existence of other moles based on one side of my face. My mole breaks the illusion of perfect knowledge.

I connect the nonexistent moles. It forms a golden constellation.

The work is made in response to the Backlight Photo Festival festival’s theme The Art of Lying.

The festival’s main exhibition at Vooninki is open today from 1–20 September 2026. The opening night is on 4 Sept.

A nice surprise to see Everything is a Projection selected for the book lover festival Immagina Festival in Tuscany. The book is designed by Emery Lane Norton, made for a project commissioned by WMA, published by The Eriskay Connection with support from Taiteen edistämiskeskus. 🟩🌐💻

I had a blast at the exhibition Occlusion Area Frappant e.V. in Hamburg curated and produced by Julia Koch, and Kayoung Kim. Went there to see my colleagues work and to see the talks by Susan Schuppli and Henreitta Williams Henri Williams (and gave a talk). Also feasted my eyes on a great selection of video essay.

Hyperimage: Photography Beyond the Human Scale is my doctoral thesis. I consider the realism/ aesthetic politics of a new genre of images, hyperimage, blending photography and large-scale statistical modelling.

I worked with the multitalented graphic designer on the print thesis and the great web designer and artist .exec on the online database Hyperimage Atlas.
