I led my first ever week of Antislop Aesthetic workshop at ECAL Photography and we managed to make a manifesto in four days. (?!) That is possible only with the help of Francesca Bergamini, Clément Lambelet and most importantly the 11 participants who put in the work and genuinely engaged with the topic and found their own bearing in the topic from their own artistic positions:

What is Antislop?
AI slop is low quality AI-generated media created with minimal human input. Unlike a poor image, slop is an unstable image engineered to give the impression a good image within the stream of online content, but start disintegrating the moment the scrolling stops. Underlying this automation of image production is the great flattening of human vision into vector space and image-text embeddings. Trained using large-scale vision datasets, generative AI assumes human vision is universal, purely optical and computable.
Anti-slop entails a critical attitude that resists the deskilling of human vision and the optimization of image-making for the attention economy. The resistance begins with deconstructing the aesthetics of AI slop — not just in terms of visual style, but as a mode of mediation. Antislop investigates the way vision is distributed into vectors, parameters, seeds, and tokens in the age of image automation. It scrutinizes the techno-economic complex that makes slop real. Anti-slop aesthetics counter the computational impulse and imagine non-datafiable, non-scalable, and non-profitable ways of seeing. We take back vision for our human selves. We remember the rich meaning in the simple act of seeing. We relearn how to see, often and carefully, with intent, empathy, and curiosity.
