A lions tale from Samburu: on an early june morning we did follow the Ewaso Nyiro riverbend. At one point a lioness crossed our way and went down to the river. We lost her out of sight and went on. A big herd of oryx was our next sighting. We watched them drinking in the river from a distance, they had quite a big flight distance. Suddenly we checked in the rearmirror of the vehicle that we had a follower: the lioness! She was all the time with us following the vehicle and using the shade. But an oryx might be to big for a loneley lioness as prey, and no calfes visible. The big cat turned as we did. She followed the road up to hills and for a few moments we could see from a distance her small cubs in a hidden cave overgrown by bushes before we said good by to her.
