So much exciting news at HGEsch, we are over the moon. We have won in one of the biggest design competitions in the world: the Red Dot Design Award. The 24 international jury members picked our latest publication, the limited edition of "advancing horizons" as best of the best (--> https://www.hgesch.de/book/advancing-horizons/), and our new website, which we created together with Ku**er & Herrman and the digital agency September.

Keep your fingers crossed for us! We are on the Dezeen Awards 2021 design longlist. Our photograph Shanghai 92, Beijing 71 and our film "Tadao Ando" are in the running for awards in the category "Architecture photograph of the year" and "Architecture video of the year" respectively.

Corona has been preventing us from going overseas, which was not too bad after all - even though we miss it dearly. Instead, we have been photographing a lot in Germany. Our most visited destination was and still is Berlin.

We are happy for ingenhoven architects and HDR - Ingenhoven's project Schauspielhaus and HDR's Waldklinik Eisenberg have been nominated for the Deutsches Architekturmuseum - DAM Preis für Architektur in Deutschland. Ingenhoven's Kö-Bogen II even made it to the Shortlist of the DAM-Preis 2022. This award for outstanding buildings in Germany has been awarded since 2007.

+++Online Vortrag über unsere Ausstellung HAUS UND HORIZONT+++

HEUTE, Montag, 7.6.2021 um 18:30 Uhr, im Rahmen der Vortragsreihe "Bewegte Bilder und Fotografie" der HS Niederrhein

Prof. Dr. Rolf Sachsse: Haus und Horizont – zwei Werkkomplexe von HGEsch und eine Serie von Heinrich Heidersberger

Bis Ende Mai 2021 lief im Aedes Architekturforum Berlin eine von Rolf Sachsse eingerichtete Ausstellung mit zwei Werkkomplexen des Fotografen HGEsch. Das Haus im Titel wird repräsentiert durch das Verwaltungsgebäude der Firma Osram in München, das 1965 von Walter Henn entworfen und nach seiner Fertigstellung von Heinrich Heidersberger
(1906 – 2006) fotografiert wurde. 2010 hat HGEsch das Gebäude ein zweites Mal aufgenommen, 2012 ist Osram aus dem Haus ausgezogen, und die Stadt München hat es als Flüchtlingsunterkunft genutzt – so ist es von HGEsch 2016 fotografiert worden. Obwohl das Haus unter Denkmalschutz stand, wurde es 2018 abgerissen, auch das hat HGEsch dokumentiert. Das Haus ist also von der Architektur- in die Fotogeschichte gewandert. Genau umgekehrt sind die Horizonte von HGEsch gedacht: Große Panoramen von Städten aus der ganzen Welt führen die Schichtungen historischer Entwicklungen vor, zeigen aber auch, wie die zukünftige Welt aussehen kann und vielleicht wird. Der Vortrag wird auch auf die Bildform des Panoramas eingehen.

Yeah! We have made it to the shortlist of the Archfilmfest London with the film we realized for the project developer EuroAtlantic to promote the unbuilt project TADAO ANDO CAMPUS & TOWER in Düsseldorf. 🎉

We miss visiting museums. Last week was International Museum Day. To mark this occasion, we rummaged through our archives and selected our favorite museum projects. One of our favorites is definitely China's first ever Maritime Museum in Lingang, near Shanghai by gmp Architekten von Gerkan, Marg und Partner . We photographed this great project in 2010. With the Messeturm Frankfurt, the Sony Center in Berlin, and the Post Tower in Bonn, Helmut Jahn shaped the silhouettes of numerous German cities. He passed away last Saturday at the age of 81. Hans Georg Esch got to know Helmut Jahn through the project of the Frankfurt Trade Fair Tower. That is where their journey together started. For more than a decade, Hans Georg documented Helmut Jahn's exceptional projects.
