Some of the photos show the band members smiling. Perhaps this is a sign that Savatage were in high spirits during their triumphant performance at the Kunstrasen Bonn Gronau Open Air. The huge crowd of fans certainly had a great time. What a fantastic show!

Rest in peace, Glen Hansard!

I had the privilege of photographing this exceptional artist on three occasions. The first time, he was the support act for Eddie Vedder, and I – who hadn’t heard of Glen Hansard at all until then – was completely blown away. The second time, I had the chance to photograph the bard as part of The Swell Season in the summer of 2025. And one last time in May 2026, this time with Glen performing as a solo artist.

Of all the acts who have appeared before my lens, Glen Hansard stood out in a way that I find hard to describe. And so the news of his motorbike accident early this morning has hit me very hard. The music world has lost a truly, truly great artist. My thoughts are with his loved ones.

It was the summer of 1989 when Alice Cooper woke me up with “Poison.” From then on, rock music became my favorite genre. I'll be forever grateful to him for that. It made it all the more wonderful that I got to photograph him for the third time just a few days ago.

To me, Glen Hansard is one of the most impressive artists around. I had the chance to photograph him a few years ago when he was opening for Eddie Vedder; I hadn’t known him before then and was deeply impressed by his musical talent. And he demonstrated that talent again just a few days ago at Cologne’s E-Werk.
