This photo has been a long time coming... almost five years! I was fortunate to be near Happisburgh in Norfolk, UK, in July 2020, when the Neowise comet was visible. Photographing and processing the night sky has never been something I've been good at, but I knew I had to at least snap some photos of the comet just in case I ever develop the skill.

Yesterday, I decided to dust off the old RAW files and give it a shot. This image took lots of experimentation, adjusting, redoing, giving up, and several Monster energy drinks... but I finally ended up with an image I am happy with.

So, enjoy this 5-year-late image of Comet Neowise and the Happisburgh lighthouse. :)

Here's a photo from 2022 of Burg Trifels from a nearby rocky outcrop. The name translates to Three Rock Castle, which is fitting when visiting. The hill the castle sits on is one of three nearly identical peaks in a row. You can see the slope of the middle hill on the left-hand side of the photo, and there is a third even further. Some interesting history about the castle: King Richard the Lionheart of England was imprisoned there for a couple years following his capture in 1192. Eventually, a large ransom was paid for his release, which affected the English economy at the time.

Because Rothenburg ob der Tauber was so nice to wander around, I decided to stay until well past sunset to explore the streets at night.

Germany is full of incredible little towns and villages, and Rothenburg ob der Tauber is no exception. This medieval, walled town was a treat to wander around... the only problem was there were too many people! This particular scene is the most widely photographed spot in the town so I had to use a long exposure of several minutes to ghost out all of the people (and car).

We spent Christmas in the German Alps and decided to walk around Lake Eibsee on our last day there. It was a clear day, but the sun was low in the sky. At some point, it eventually peaked over the Alps and shone down on the lake. I snapped this photo as the first rays began to warm the trees on a little island in the middle of the lake.

Another angle of Burg Eltz from the other side of the bridge that approaches the gate. I plan to visit this place at least once more to take photographs. I'll have to plan a visit to the interior of the castle as well. Fascinating place!

In February, we had the privilege of visiting Northern Ireland for our daughter's gymnastics competition. I've always wanted to see the "King's Road" and take a photo for my collection, so we decided to add it to our list of stops while we were in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, I did not have the luxury of planning the perfect time to visit, but I'm still happy with the final photo and am happy to share it with you all.

I've been meaning to visit Burg Eltz since I learned about it a couple years ago. It's two hours away, which isn't that far, but I still never made the time to visit. On a whim, I went yesterday. I hiked all around, looking for the best angle for sunset. The best view I found is just across from the bridge that leads to the front gate. I snapped a few photos using my LEE Filters, but I'm not happy with how most of them turned out. This was the best shot of the night. Unfortunately, as the sun got lower, the clouds over the castle disappeared, and it was just a plain, boring blue sky. I hope to explore it more and maybe find an even better vantage point. Photography aside, this is a pretty cool place to visit and hike around. It's privately owned and lived in by the same family that has had it for 900 years!

It's been a while, but I got out the other day with the drone and took a few photos of a castle we visited on a hike. This is Burg Grafenstein, about 40 minutes away from my house. It was fun to hike around and explore, and I knew it would be a great subject for a photo!

My attempt at a long exposure with focus stacking. It was fun to play with this one in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop while practicing new techniques. I still have much to learn, but I'm somewhat happy with this outcome. It makes me want to find more little water features to capture.

Here's a quick one from a recent outing in the snow. I was driving home when the reflection of this cafe caught my eye. I had to stop even if only to take a photo for our memories of beautiful Germany.
