Although the Pleiades and the galactic “Maya” Nebula are already shining again in the night sky and will accompany us through the winter, the raw images for this image have been on my hard drive since December 2021. I finally got around to putting the picture together.
The Pleiades is an open star cluster that can be seen with the naked eye and is often incorrectly referred to as the Little Dipper. The Pleiades are part of our galaxy, the Milky Way, and are about 440 light years away. The Maya Nebula is about 350 light-years from Earth.
