An Open Letter to President Adama Barrow
Your Excellency President Adama Barrow,
I write to you today as a concerned Gambian who believes deeply in the unity, peace, and dignity of our nation.
Recent remarks made by the Deputy Speaker have caused concern among many Gambians, including myself, because statements that appear to divide citizens along tribal lines threaten the harmony that our country has worked hard to preserve. The Gambia belongs to all Gambians regardless of tribe, ethnicity, region, or political affiliation.
What makes this matter even more troubling is the use of my name in connection with these divisive remarks. I wish to state clearly and publicly that I do not support tribal politics, tribal division, or any attempt to pit Gambians against one another. My values remain rooted in national unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence.
Your Excellency, leadership carries responsibility. Public officials must use their positions to unite the people and strengthen national cohesion, especially at a time when citizens expect wisdom, fairness, and maturity from those entrusted with public office.
I respectfully call on you, as President of the Republic, to distance yourself and your government from any statements or actions that encourage tribal division. Silence on such matters can easily be misunderstood as acceptance. Gambians deserve reassurance that their leaders stand for unity above all else.
Our country has long been admired for peaceful coexistence among different communities. We must not allow careless rhetoric to damage that legacy or create unnecessary tension among our people.
This is not about politics or personal rivalry. It is about protecting the soul of our nation and ensuring that future generations inherit a Gambia built on respect, equality, and national unity.
I remain hopeful that wisdom, fairness, and responsible leadership will prevail.
May peace and unity continue to guide our beloved nation.
Respectfully,
Bajimo kijera
