I'm still alive. Long time no see. Life passes me by and I find that I don't want to follow the madness and pace of social media. The last few weeks and months I've been concentrating more on my own art as a musician and photographer than pleasing others. Nature is more beautiful in real life, consciously listening to music is more valuable and communicating with real people is more satisfying than looking at AI-generated mirages. To be creative, to create something with my own senses and hands and to inspire and delight others - I think that is my purpose.
Today: A simple tree, some frost, some fog and a lot of dedication.

There has been no rain for the past few weeks and the soil in this meadow has been dry and rock hard. The weather forecast predicted rain overnight. And when rain hits hot ground and cools overnight, ground fog develops at sunrise. This is the theory and the basics in landscape photography. The logical consequence of this is to get up before sunrise and bring your body, which is struggling with tiredness, to the location. The rest is waiting and hoping you haven't miscalculated. Everything came true this morning. If I had worn rubber boots and had a thermos of coffee with me, it would have been perfect. So only the photo is perfect :-)

I was lucky. I sat in front of this rock face and wondered whether I should wait for the sunset or whether I should get off the mountain. I had my flashlight with me so it didn't matter. Then I remembered that this was the solstice and the sun sets at the westernmost point.
This means that due to the location of the rock massif, only a few days come into consideration that it will be illuminated by the sun at sunset. Most of the year the light only comes from behind. The rain had stopped, I was cold and I waited. Then the last rain clouds disappeared and the evening light conjured up this wonderful atmosphere.

I was in the Bavarian Forest a few days ago. It's not very spectacular at this time of year. The green isn't that far yet, there's still snow in places and nature is still in hibernation. And yet this also has its charm and only unfolds its beauty after a longer period of contemplation. If you get up early enough or sit by a lake late in the evening, you can enjoy the peace and quiet undisturbed. Nobody disturbs the peace, from afar you can only hear the wind blowing through the trees and in the distance you can hear a waterfall, which is louder than usual due to the snowmelt. At this point at the latest, I realize again what a gift that is.

Water has always held a great fascination for me. I could sit by a stream or a waterfall for hours, watching and listening. The white noise produced by a waterfall contains all the frequencies that a human ear can hear, but not all of them are present at the same time. If you listen long enough, you think you hear things that aren't there. This sometimes makes me question my sanity :-). This waterfall is the Gaisalpbach in the Allgäu near . Natural and artificial steps were built in to take away the unbridled power of the creek when the water melts or after heavy rain. Each level is an experience...

I'm lying in the hotel room and it's raining heavily outside. The water claps loudly against the window pane and the weather report says nothing good. I have already given up for today and have come to terms with the fact that I will spend this evening in the room with bad television programs. Then it stops raining and the fog rises from the woods. The light above the fog turns warm white and that means that the sun will come out one more time. I throw my photo equipment in the car and drive to a lookout point from which you can look down into the valley. At first I am standing in the fog, then the setting sun comes through and enchants the landscape with its warm light ... You just have to wait for the right moment :-)

Silence doesn't ask questions, but it can give us an answer to anything. This quote from Ernst Ferstl has been with me for a long time. I often wander through nature with my camera lost in thought and forget everything around me - often taking photos. My photo tours are often the occasion for meditation. Then I just sit somewhere and listen to the silence. The hunt for the perfect photo or the perfect moment is not only tiring, but also not my claim. If it's supposed to happen, it will happen. Often times the pictures come to me, I just have to be able to wait for them. Then I sit on a stump, it's quiet around me, and the setting sun lights up the clouds one last time from below and enchants me ...

Because of the long winter and the cold, everything is later than usual. In the region of Germany where I live, it was too cold for a long time and I was outdoors every sunny day. A few days ago when I took this picture it was cold and stormy. The wind drove the clouds in front of it and made the grain sway like waves in an ocean. Every now and then it rained like a shower and the warming sun shone again immediately. The light was hard, there was no haze to be seen in the atmosphere and the deep blue of the sky and this single tree particularly fascinated me.

The last few days winter came back. I hadn't expected it anymore and I had already written it off. Although it inspires me in its own way, I've had enough of the snow. I longed too much for the warm rays of the sun and the smell of flowers. This little flower has not given up and it defies the snow. It shows me that fighting is worthwhile. Even if times are tough, but: Life is more than just surviving. Have a nice weekend.
