THE MARSEILLE FILES

After being on the road a lot and enjoying the holidays, I’ve been posting only sporadically lately. But there are still plenty of images from those trips waiting to be shared.

This series of three images was taken in Marseille, featuring the striking Euromed Center in the Joliette district - one of the major projects of Marseille’s Euroméditerranée redevelopment.

Designed by the renowned architects Massimiliano and Doriana Fuksas, Massimiliano e Doriana Fuksas the Euromed Center brings together offices, a hotel, shops, public spaces and an urban park. The project was developed between 2006 and 2017 and has become an important part of Marseille’s changing cityscape.

What caught my eye was the architecture itself: the clean white façade, the repetitive windows and that beautiful contrast with the Mediterranean sky. From this perspective, the building almost turns into a graphic composition.

I’m back in Munich now, but my camera roll is still full of architecture from the past few weeks. So expect a few more Marseille files coming your way.

A MIRROR OF ART ✨ DEPOT ROTTERDAM

Architecture meets art in one of Rotterdam’s most fascinating buildings🪞✨

The Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen designed by MVRDV MVRDV , is much more than a museum. Its striking mirrored façade reflects the city around it, while inside, thousands of artworks from the Boijmans Van Beuningen collection can be explored behind the scenes.

And then there’s the rooftop garden 🌿 a green oasis with spectacular views over Rotterdam.

We, Romina und Christian were absolutely impressed by both the architecture/ art and the rooftop garden. For us, this is definitely another Rotterdam Rotterdam highlight that deserves a spot on your list!

LAST CALL FOR STILLNESS 🌪️

Some places make you slow down
Museum Voorlinden Museum Voorlinden is one of them.
We, Romina Romina | Munich and Christian Christian Theile truly enjoyed our visit, where art, nature and architecture come together in such a beautiful, immersive way.

Our highlight was “Stillness in the Storm”, a collection exhibition exploring silence, reflection and finding clarity in a world that never seems to stop. Works by Marina Abramović, Anish Kapoor, Massimo Bartolini, Arturo Hernández Alcázar, Olafur Eliasson, and many more create moments that invite you to pause, look closer and simply be present Voorlinden.

And the museum itself is part of the experience: designed by Kraaijvanger Architects, its natural stone, glass and carefully controlled daylight blur the boundaries between architecture, art and the surrounding landscape.

📸 Architecture Highlight in Barcelona: Media-TIC

Some buildings are made to be photographed. Others make you stop and look twice. Media-TIC in Barcelona is definitely one of them.

Designed by architect Enric Ruiz Geli and his studio Cloud 9, the building was completed in 2010 and stands as one of the most striking examples of digital and sustainable architecture in Barcelona. Its extraordinary façade is made from translucent ETFE cushions, creating that almost futuristic, pixel-like appearance.

What makes it even more fascinating is that the façade isn’t just about aesthetics. The triangular ETFE elements can adapt to sunlight, helping to control heat and light inside the building. Architecture that actually reacts to its environment – and looks incredible while doing it.

And today feels like the perfect day to share these three images: it’s World Photography Day 📸

For me, photography is all about discovering details, finding unusual perspectives and showing architecture in a way that makes you want to look twice

4 Hours. One Idea. A New Perspective.

Paris was only a stopover this time 😉 but with four hours at the airport, We, Romina and Me decided to turn waiting time into creative time.

The architecture of Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport has a strong identity: bold concrete structures, rhythmic geometry and a futuristic sense of movement. Terminal 1, designed by Paul Andreu, the airport was conceived as more than just a place to pass through its airport design turns circulation, light and structure into part of the journey. And for sure one of the coolest in europe😎

For us, it became the perfect playground for architecture photography, urban geometry and travel photography. Sometimes, you only need one idea to see a familiar place differently.

A four-hour layover suddenly becomes a new creative opportunity. And maybe a nice idea for your next long stop over to be creative 😉📸?

Because waiting doesn’t always mean standing still. Sometimes, it’s where the next idea begins.

Less, but more | The beauty of minimalism

Minimalism in photography is all about knowing what to leave out ✨

White tones, simple shapes, clean lines and plenty of negative space can create an image that feels calm, timeless and intentional. Sometimes, the strongest composition is the one that says the most with the least.

Working creatively with a person adds another layer. A subtle pose, a quiet gesture or simply the presence of someone within the architecture can bring scale, emotion and a human touch to an otherwise minimal scene.
For me, minimalism is about finding the balance between architecture, light and human presence. Working creatively with a person allows the image to become more than just shapes and geometry it creates a small moment, a feeling, perhaps even a story that the viewer can imagine for themselves.

Wood, Play & Architectural Magic 🪵✨

A two-story timber solitaire, a winding courtyard complete with a slide, and spaces designed to grow alongside the children: The new kindergarten at the Rain school site in Ittigen beautifully proves how modern densification and sustainable timber construction can go hand in hand!

For us, Christain and Romina Romina | Munich this showcase at OpenHouse Bern Open House Bern was a highlight - the warm atmosphere and child-friendly design details!

BLUE 💙

When the temperatures rise, nothing feels better than cool tones. Blue has a unique way of making a space feel calmer, fresher, and almost a few degrees cooler. Pair that with clean lines, geometric shapes, and a perfectly designed staircase, and you’ve got a space that’s impossible to walk past without looking twice.

Architecture isn’t just about form - it’s about how a space makes you feel. And today, blue is definitely winning.

Imagining a Different Future

During our visit to the House of Art in Munich we, Romina and Christian Christian Theile explored two inspiring art installations that left a lasting impression.

Tomás Saraceno’s Studio Tomás Saraceno exhibition is a fascinating blend of art, architecture and science. Through immersive air sculptures, web-like structures and visionary installations, he invites us to rethink the relationship between humans, nature and the future of our planet. His works encourage new perspectives on sustainability, coexistence and the way we shape our environment.

Don’t miss the striking plastic bag installation in the foyer, which can even be visited free of charge.

🔺 THE HIDDEN TRIANGLE

During my stop near Görlitz, I discovered a truly special architectural gem just across the border in Zgorzelec: St. Joseph the Worker Church.

It was a hot summer day, but for a truly unique architectural spot, no road is ever too long. I made my way to this fascinating concrete landmark - and it was absolutely worth it.

From the ground, the expressive geometry of the church already creates a strong impression. But from above, the hidden idea behind the design becomes visible: a powerful composition of triangles, lines, and concrete shapes that transforms the building into a true architectural statement.

Designed by Wojciech Kurowski, Alina Niedźwiedzka-Kurowska, Jan Niedźwiedzki and Wojciech Marszałek, St. Joseph the Worker Church is a remarkable example of modern Polish sacred architecture, where raw materials meet bold forms and a unique spatial concept.

This is exactly why I love architecture photography: chasing unexpected places, exploring new perspectives, and revealing details that remain hidden from everyday views.
