One of the highlights of my year so far was my project trip to Bhutan with
It is all the more regrettable that I have not yet reported on it. We visited vnumerous project sites over the course of more than two weeks, spoke with local people, lived with families, and I documented our experiences through photography and film. It was a wonderful and enriching journey, and I learned a great deal about this remarkable country.
The first project I would like to present is the ‚Meritsemo Primary School‘ in southern Bhutan. The school, located in the Chukha District, currently educates 65 pupils.
Charo Himalaya has supported the school through several initiatives, including the renovation of classrooms, the construction of a washroom with sinks for all children, financial assistance for the most disadvantaged students and their families, and the refurbishment of the multi-purpose hall where the children eat and do their homework. This hall is also used for meetings. During the coronavirus pandemic, the school was equipped with tablets and became one of the first to develop a comprehensive concept for digital learning.
We encountered several difficulties during our visit to this project. It rained almost continuously throughout the journey, and the weather did not improve upon our arrival in Meritsemo. Shortly after our arrival, the power went out and remained off for the duration of our stay. Because of the persistent rainfall, we were forced to shorten our visit, as the risk of landslides on the return journey would otherwise have been too great.
Despite these difficulties, it was one of the most rewarding visits of the trip.
