The heather blooming is almost over, pretty early this year. But this doesn’t matter for this kind of shots. I turned it into b&w because it “removes” distracting elements quite well and helps the composition quite much in my eyes.
What do you think? Do you like to see the color version?

Hypnotic

Just tried something in PS.. This was shot in daylight and I wanted it to look like a night a shot. And then I got to keen and added also the light =) The surfer was actually there, tough guy surfing in the arctic sea. I blended him in from a high ISO, non ND filter, shot. It was just a test, but I like it somehow, it has its own interest. What do you think?

Re-edit of an very old capture. This was shot when we hiked up the Brocken during heavy snow fall. We did that more or less spontaneously, when we came along a sign: "Look only 7 km up the Brocken, lets go" =) It got much more exhausting than we thought due to the fresh snow. When we finally arrived we got lunch, it tasted so good .. ..even though I probably hadn't eaten it under normal circumstances =P

For the Fallen Heroes

We had one week where all in Germany everything was covered in this fantastic snow. And I had a week of! After a few days in the Harz I went to Saxony to shot the Bastei. But the weather and the forecast toyed with me, never saw the sun in the morning 4 days in a row. So I was a little frustrated, also shooting in places where everybody already has taken a shot, so that I went out just driving through that wonderful winter landscape searching for nice objects to photograph.. ..and found this memorial for the fallen soldiers during both world wars. And the light was this time with me. I am not sure about the editing here, so any advice and critique is welcome.

Yes! We have snow back here in Germany! I am so happy, because it was not just for one or two days, we have it for more than a week now.
I took a few days of last week to shot the steam trains in a smaller mountain range here in Germany, the Harz. They bring you up to the highest peak in northern Germany, it is called Brocken. It has been long on my list and I am very happy that I have some pictures of the steam locos, and then even in a winter fairy tale forest. How cool is that! =)

This was shot in pouring rain. I remember that very well because I was getting mad with my umbrella which I held with one hand while switching lens and filters. And while I was setting up crouching in the muddy path a group of 10 people walking by all looking very pitying.

I like this version of the Lüneburg Harbor even more, because the main subjects correspond historically so nicely:
Before railway times the main route for goods from Hamburg to the South did go over Lüneburg. The goods came per ship; the two ships are actually re-constructed versions they used at that time, they could carry tons. Light goods were unloaded directly to the warehouse with its Baroque facade (it was rebuilt after old plans). Heavier goods had to be unloaded by the crane. It once took out a steam locomotive. I will tell you a little more about that in my next image.
