Dicte Sønnichsen wins the ECCA-DMJX Photojournalism Award of 100,000 Danish Kroner.

In a time where photojournalism is challenged, we’re extremely happy and thankful that the ECCA Family Foundation supports our students by funding the bi-annual ECCA-DMJX Photojournalism Award that we handed out at DMJX this Tuesday.

A huge congratulation to Dicte Sønnichsen, who won the main prize for her project ‘Untamed Lands’ and to the three runner-ups:

Sigrid Ellesøe Nielsen and Thea Tønnesvang with ‘Push Start’
Zifan Zhang with ‘Fading Dream’
August Vinther with ‘Damaged Angel’

Each runner-up project will receive 30,000 Danish Kroner.

The grant money will allow the students to continue working on their stories.

Thank you to the external jury members Amélie Schneider, Rehab Eldalil and Alex Rune Dahldorph for their work going through the 35 submitted projects.

The overall quality was impressive – both in terms of visual presentation and regarding forward-looking approaches to modern journalism. With these words from jury-member Amélie Schneider, we're super happy and proud to announce the four nominated projects for the 2026 ECCA-DMJX Photojournalism Award.

Each nominated project will receive 30,000 Danish Kroner and the overall winner will receive additional 70,000 Danish Kroner.

Huge congratulations to Sigrid Ellesøe Nielsen, Thea Tønnesvang, Dicte Hostrup Sønnichsen, August Vinther and Zifan Zhang.

The main winner will be announced at an award ceremony at DMJX on Tuesday, August 25 from 3pm, where the external jury members Rehab Eldalil, Amélie Schneider and Alex Dahldorph will be present. A huge thank you to them for their jury work.

Also a heartfelt thank you to the ECCA Family Foundation for supporting and trusting in our students.

Last week, DMJX faculty teacher Søren Pagter conducted the second of a series of four DMJX photojournalism workshops in Cairo.

12 Egyptian photographers have been selected for the programme and they will receive teaching and work on individual assignments during the workshops.

The educational programme is made in co-operation with Photopia Cairo and supported by the Embassy of Denmark in Cairo.

Even though summer vacation might be approaching you can still see amazing stories from DMJX photojournalism.

Right now, the Shifting Grounds exhibition produced by fourth term students in the spring 2025 is on display at Dokk1 - Main Library Aarhus.

The exhibition and magazine were originally made for Copenhagen Photo Festival 2025 and can now be seen in Aarhus till August 6.

Thank you to all who came and celebrated the opening of Crossroads together with our fourth term students at Copenhagen Photo Festival this past Friday.

The fantastic exhibition is open till Wednesday, June 17 at Refshaleøen in Copenhagen.

Yesterday, our Photo 1 students and Danish second term students concluded the spring term with a mutual exhibition and the launch of two magazines.

Come by the school to see the exhibition and magazine in real life or see the online version at our webpage.

Next stop on the DMJX tour will be the exhibition at Copenhagen Photo Festival tomorrow.

Two of our ECCA scholarship students have been recognized for their magazine stories made at DMJX photojournalism in the spring 2025.

Congratulations to Rahadh Sarker for being selected as runner-up in The 2026 Alexia Conservation Student Grant and to Zhang Zifan for being shortlisted in the student category at the 2026 World Report Award documenting humanity.
