This is Trento, located in Trentino-Alto Adige, one of Italy's northernmost regions. It is not your regular Italian summer destination - surrounded by the mountains and seasoned with a touch of Austrian influences, Trento resembles more of a dreamy Alpine settlement than a vivid Mediterranean seaside town.

That doesn't mean though that you won't get the beloved Italian experience - the colourful houses and the best gelato will greet you wherever you walk in the old town. Don't forget to visit the cathedral, the castle gardens, and take the cable car to Sardagna for the best view of Trento.

Trento really surprised me, and it actually became one of the most beautiful places I have seen in the "Bel paese". Make sure to include it in your next Italian itinerary! 🇮🇹⛰️🏰

I have visited Trieste twice before, and this odd-looking church always caught my attention, but never had time to visit. You can immediately tell that it stands out as it looks nothing like the rest of the city - which is a tough category to win in a city where so many different cultures are present. This time, I decided to hop on a bus and check it out.

This brutalist church is called Santuario di Monte Grisa and it was built after WWII to express gratitude, since the city survived all those tough years.

You can easily visit it by local bus but make sure to check the timetable in advance, as buses don't always run too often. The church itself is free to visit and it's really not something you would see anywhere, so I highly recommend visiting! 👀🇮🇹

Trieste is the first town I managed to visit in Italy 10 years ago, and it has held a special place in my heart ever since. It is the perfect mixture of Budapest, Vienna and Venice. ❤️

To make my Lithuanian trip complete, I needed to visit Trakai as well. This cute village is mostly known for its castle, but I realised the journey, or more precisely, the walk is just as fun - it has a lovely and laid-back atmosphere with the lake and the wooden houses! It might just be me, but the castle was more interesting on the outside than on the inside, which doesn't take away the fact that it's a must-see when in Lithuania. 🇱🇹😍

The second stop during my Lithuania trip was Kaunas, which is the second largest city of the country, as well.

In comparison with Vilnius, I would say they differ quite a bit. Vilnius is like a ready-made exhibition, whereas Kaunas is a scavenger hunt: you need to work your way through the city to get your reward.
