Last weekend of the Itinérances Foto festival. If you have the chance to visit Sète, you're still in time to see the thirty-three exhibitions spread throughout this enchanting city.

It's been a pleasure to take part. Many thanks to the whole volunteer team behind the festival, and especially to Galerie-atelier Le vent se lève for hosting a selection from the Gaia series.

À très bientôt !

Photos by Jean Milon. Merci, Jean ! 🙏❤️

Diptych number 1. Wave and wildflowers.

This image was created in November 2022 and opens the series of diptychs that make up the Gaia series, on which I have been working ever since.

The series is named after the Lovelock and Margulis hypothesis of Earth as a self-regulating superorganism. The work pairs photographs of the natural world to reveal hidden connections between them, where each image may transform the meaning of the other, producing something beyond the simple sum of its parts. This is grounded in Ralph Gibson's concept of 'visual overtones': just as combined musical tones generate a new third sound, two images placed together create a richer, emergent visual reality.

It can be seen, alongside other images from the series, at the Gaia exhibition of the Itinérances Foto Festival, hosted by Galerie-atelier Le vent se lève in the city of Sète until the end of the month.

All set at Galerie-atelier Le vent se lève for the show I'm presenting as part of the Itinérances Foto festival, opening this Thursday, May 14. If you have the chance to visit, you'll find a selection of images from the Gaia series.

Very happy to be part of Itinerances Foto, and grateful for the warm welcome from the festival's board and for the kindness of gallerist Jean Milon, who is hosting my work.

Now in its fourth edition, the festival brings together 39 photographers from France and Europe across 25 venues in the centre of Sète, from May 9 to 31. This year's theme, "And what if this is life?", is an open and vertiginous invitation to explore life as dreamed, mourned, invented, and celebrated, down to the infinitely small. The festival opened on May 9 with two distinguished guest artists: Dolorès Marat, one of the great names in photography, and Ed Alcock, winner of the Prix Niépce 2025. All exhibitions are free and open to all.

I am happy and honoured to share that my image "Díptic 70" has been acquired by the Stephen H. Tyng Foundation and will form part of The Royal Photographic Society's permanent collection.

Established in 1927 by the American photographer Stephen Higginson Tyng to promote Pictorialist photography in England, the Foundation was created to support the acquisition of fine photographic prints for the benefit of the RPS. Today, it continues this legacy by acquiring contemporary work in dialogue with the Society's historic holdings.

Thank you to Viveca Koh for selecting my work, and to Samantha Ruth for her kindness throughout the process.

With Viveca's permission, I am sharing here the comments she presented to the members of the RPS Visual Art Group.
