Sita without a Face starring

Inspired by “Les Yeux Sans Visage” (1960) this project created for Sita Abellán explores the unsettling and timeless themes of bodily autonomy, beauty standards, and the oppressive gaze of society on women.
Georges Franju’s 1960 masterpiece was ahead of its time, exposing the horror behind the relentless pursuit of perfection—an obsession that feels even more suffocating in today’s world of social media, filters, and cosmetic enhancements.
The film tells the story of a woman whose face is destroyed in an accident, and whose father—driven by a toxic ideal of beauty—goes to monstrous lengths to restore it.
This narrative resonates deeply with contemporary discussions on how women’s bodies are treated as projects, constantly in need of “fixing” to meet an unattainable ideal. The pressure to conform, to erase individuality in favor of an artificial standard, has only intensified with modern technology.
By merging the eerie aesthetics of Les Yeux Sans Visage with Sita Abellán’s bold and subversive presence, this project aims to challenge the rigid expectations placed on female beauty. It serves as a reminder that true empowerment comes not from conforming to an oppressive ideal, but from embracing the raw, the strange, and the imperfectly real.
