Katherin Wermke is an international photographer, art director, photography instructor and art therapy coach. Katherin Wermke was born in Cologne, Germany in 1977. She has always felt a great interest in visual arts which significantly strengthened while working in television production in Cologne and in Mexico. In 2000, Katherin moved to Barcelona where she was instructed at the Institut d’Estudi
s Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC) and obtained a degree in advertising photography. She completed her studies in fashion photography at the School of Visual Arts and The International Center of Photography in New York. Due to her continuous interest and curiosity she has become a professional photographer and artist in a very short time and has secured a rapidly increasing national and international clientèle. Katherin has been working for international magazines and companies such as: Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Airplan, Amouage Oman, Barrisol, BASF, Bayer Healthcare, Cemafon, Deutsche Bank, European Cancer Organization, Fes Jeans Chile, Facebook, Grupozeta, Grisby Menswear, Hewlett Packard, Hyland Magazine USA, King of Wear France, La Pedrera Barcelona, New York Cool Magazine, Pepsico, Photon Magazine, River Island, School of Visual Arts New York, Seat, Skype, Sony, Surkana, Staff Empresarial, Uber Technologies Dubai, Wall Street Journal Europe and Woman Figaro Magazine Spain. She has shot both the catwalk and backstage for the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York since 2007. Katherin’s expertise and unique creativity is also essential to the Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya in Barcelona; as an integral part of the staff she is instructing lighting techniques for portraiture. Through her own company Barcelona Photographer she organizes and carries out professional workshops in and around Barcelona, as well for the School of Visual Arts New York and the organization Westcoast Connection Student Travel (USA) as, of course, for any kind of private clients, no matter if for individuals, groups or companies. In 2012, Barcelona Photographer received a scholarship from the Leonardo Da Vinci Lifelong Learning Program for the European photography project “Fotografenmeister”. Photography institutions from Germany, Austria and Poland also participated in this European program. In 2013, Katherin started a collaboration with the NGO Don Bosco in South India. Her contribution, framed within an art therapy project, consists in teaching photography to street children. She is very committed to this project as this kind of work satisfies another necessity of her, the artistic expression in a social context. As a speaker, Katherin was invited to the International Mediaforum of Young Journalist Leaders from Russia, CIS, the EU and Asia in the State Hermitage Museum of Saint Petersburg, Russia, celebrated in November 2013, where she presented her documentary work realized in South India, Dubai, Barcelona and New York. Katherin is an active member of the Asociación de Fotógrafos Profesionales de España (AFP – Spanish Photographer Association) and of the NGO Shoot4Change. Since 2014 she is the art director of the Indian based NGO Street Heroes of India.
