Last Sunday I finally made it to Poblenou Cemetery and got to see "The Kiss of Death" with my own eyes. It’s a sculpture I’ve wanted to visit for a long time, and I’m glad I finally had the chance.
Created in 1930, the monument depicts a winged angel gently kissing a young man as his life slips away. Rather than portraying death as something violent or frightening, it presents it as a peaceful passage from the material world to whatever lies beyond. Or at least that's my interpretation.
If you’ve been following this account for a while, you’ve probably realized by now that this isn’t a "classic" street photography account. Some days I shoot in color, other days in black and white. Sometimes there are people in my frames, sometimes there are empty spaces, flowers, architecture, or simply something that catches my attention and refuses to leave my mind.
I know the conventional advice: find a niche, focus on a subject, develop a style that makes your photographs instantly recognizable. Maybe that’s the right approach for some photographers. For me, photography is about curiosity, experimentation, and the freedom to follow whatever interests me at a given moment.
So today it’s a beautiful sculpture in black and white. I hope you will see the beauty in it that made me decide to go there and capture these images.
And if anyone knows a death metal band looking for album artwork, I think photo 4 is ready to go.
