Species: Aeonium leucoblepharum

Family: Crassulaceae

Name: Aeonium

Origin: Ethiopia and Kenya

Curious fact: Aeonium belongs to Crassulaceae plants, characterized, among other things, by crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM). While most plants absorb and fix CO2 during the day, in CAM plants both processes are separated in time. CO2 used in photosynthesis is absorbed during the night and stored in the vacuoles, becoming malic acid. The next day, the plant releases CO2 from malic acid, providing carbohydrates in the Calvin cycle.
