Alex es uno de los bailarines del nuevo espectáculo de danza ¡ALÁ! IRÉ de Rafael Amargo. Tuve el gran privilegio de asistir a su maravilloso ensayo esta semana en los Teatros del Canal de la Comunidad de Madrid. Utilizando únicamente una ventana y el talento de Alex y Rafael, pude realizar estas fotografías.

Lo que presencié fue algo visceral, casi shakesperiano, donde la fuerza de su ascendencia afrocaribeña se fusiona magistralmente con el mundo de la danza contemporánea. Mi intención con el uso del color y las formas fue capturar esa intensidad eléctrica. Quizás no sepa hacer fotografías de danza convencionales, pero lo que vemos aquí es el resultado de lo que sí puedo lograr cuando colaboro con artistas de la talla de Alex y Rafael.

Os recomiendo a todos asistir a su nuevo espectáculo.

Alex is one of the dancers in Rafael Amargo’s new dance show ¡ALÁ! IRÉ. I had the great privilege of attending their wonderful rehearsal this week at the Teatros del Canal in the Community of Madrid. Using only a window and the talent of Alex and Rafael, I was able to capture these photographs.
What I witnessed was something visceral, almost Shakespearean, where the strength of his Afro-Caribbean ancestry masterfully merges with the world of contemporary dance. My intention with the use of color and forms was to capture that electric intensity. Perhaps I don't know how to take conventional dance photographs, but what we see here is the result of what I can achieve when I collaborate with artists of the caliber of Alex and Rafael.

I wholeheartedly recommend their new show.

Antes solía disparar, revelar y positivar mis propias películas en blanco y negro y color en mi laboratorio en casa, y me encantaba el revelado cruzado en diapositiva para conseguir esos colores salvajes y "xpro". Hoy en día, soy más perezoso —y me ahorro mucho dinero disparando en digital—. Sin embargo, sigo buscando esa sensación distintiva del revelado cruzado. Para evitar caer en la trampa de que la fotografía digital se convierta en una realidad monótona y repetitiva, utilizo iluminación, objetivos, cámaras y técnicas de postprocesado específicas para romper la imagen. Si mi resultado se parece un poco a la foto de otra persona tomada ese mismo día a la misma modelo, he fracasado; debo esforzarme más la próxima vez. Esta sesión fue un esfuerzo de colaboración entre la modelo y yo: ella estuvo increíble y lo estilizamos juntos. Me encantaban los fondos, pero quería introducir colores más vibrantes.

I used to shoot, self-process, and darkroom-print my own black and white and color film in my home laboratory, and I loved cross-processing slide film to achieve those wild, "xpro" colors. Nowadays, I’m lazier—and I save a lot of money by shooting digital. However, I still chase that distinct cross-processed look. To avoid falling into the trap of digital photography becoming a monotonous, "photocopying" reality, I use specific lighting, lenses, cameras, and post-processing techniques to break the image down. If my result looks at all like someone else’s photo of the same model taken on the same day, I have failed; I must try harder next time. This shoot was a collaborative effort between the model and me—she was amazing, and we styled it together. I loved the patina of the backgrounds but wanted to introduce vibe...

Aleksei Tiurin does not just wait for a photo like a generic model. No, Aleksei makes it drama. He is in Reservoir Dogs, the Quentin Tarantino film, except he is wearing an orange suit at 95 Gallery. He is Mr. Orange. To come, I have him as Mr. Pink, too... and Mr. Blue, Mr. Green, and Mr. Gold. Aleksei rocks a suit. He is the model you want for your editorial or campaign because he is on another level. It is fluid, seamless, and dramatic. As a photographer shooting with Aleksei, I don’t need fancy camera tricks, just a couple of basic lights and a Fujifilm custom film recipe I created myself and he does the rest. With regular models I have to help them create things and move up intensity. With a model like Aleksei I just follow him and let him flow.

The wonderful suit is by Lorenzo Gabor, a designer based in Madrid specialized in formal dresses and cool suits. The suit is daring in color yet impeccably tailored; it is there to make a statement. When you enter the room in a Gabor suit, you really make an entrance.

The makeup is by Anca, one of the most talented MUAH creatives in Spain. She had a brief: "It’s a modern street art gallery, I want bold, off-the-track, creative makeup. Break the rules. Be cool. Do something cool."

The venue is the number 1 modern art gallery in Spain, 95 Gallery, in its private areas upstairs. This is the workshop area where the world's number 1 mural artist, Sfhir Sfhir Ogt Lcsiete , creates his magic. A huge thank you to Sfhir for letting us shoot with the best backdrops in Madrid.

Gelvito es uno de los bailarines del nuevo espectáculo de danza ¡ALÁ! IRÉ de Rafael Amargo. Tuve el gran privilegio de asistir a su maravilloso ensayo ayer en los Teatros del Canal de la Comunidad de Madrid. Utilizando únicamente una ventana y el talento de Gelvito y Rafael, pude realizar estas fotografías.

Mi intención con el uso del color y las formas es reflejar la pasión, el movimiento y el colorido latino presente en su arte. Quizás no sepa hacer fotografías de danza convencionales ni de deportes, y mucho menos dibujar, pero lo que vemos aquí es el resultado de lo que sí puedo lograr cuando cuento con modelos excepcionales como Gelvito y Rafael.

Thank you to Under Pleasure for introducing me to wonderful creative models and actors, without whom my drama could not happen. This is a double exposure digital composite combining the talent of Masha with the trees and buildings of my daily urban landscape. I don’t know how to shoot a landscape that says anything, but I have found people who can make the city blocks speak for me. This is not the first time this picture has won an award, which means she did a fantastic job - it means it’s not a coincidence, it isn’t luck.

There are a number of extremely talented Russians in Madrid. Coming soon, I have Masha and Aleksei Tiurin in another Under Pleasure event in the countryside in Toledo.

Gracias a Under Pleasure por presentarme a modelos y actores creativos maravillosos, sin los cuales mi drama no podría suceder. Se trata de un compuesto digital de doble exposición que combina el talento de Masha con los árboles y edificios de mi paisaje urbano cotidiano. No sé cómo fotografiar un paisaje que diga algo, pero he encontrado personas que pueden hacer que las manzanas de la ciudad hablen por mí. No es la primera vez que esta imagen gana un premio, lo que significa que ella hizo un trabajo fantástico; significa que no es coincidencia, no es suerte.

Hay una gran cantidad de rusos extremadamente talentosos en Madrid. Próximamente, contaré con Masha y Aleksei Tiurin en otro evento de Under Pleasure en el campo, en Toledo.

El próximo gran parque temático de UP para creativos es el 18/10/26: Festival Photoday con Aviones y Coches de Lujo.

El arte no pide permiso, ni da excusas.

Las primeras imágenes publicadas de mi evento reciente: Fashion Art Invitational. El objetivo: meter en una batidora el flamenco salvaje y dramático de Rafael Amargo — un artista con una esencia tan surrealista que me recuerda a Salvador Dalí— con la fuerza urbana y geométrica de las obras en la 95 ART GALLERY.

Esto es España: la pintura urbana, la vanguardia y el alma flamenca colisionando en mi lente. Es raro, es diferente y no busca agradar a todo el mundo; busca romper la superficie.

Un enorme agradecimiento a la selección de modelos, bailarines, maquilladoras, estilistas, actores y artistas y fotógrafos que hicieron esto posible, y a los amigos de Under Pleasure Fiesta & Fotoday por abrir las puertas que permiten que estas sinergias ocurran.

This is Spain: urban painting, avant-garde style, and the soul of flamenco colliding through my lens. It is strange, it is different, and it does not seek to please everyone; it seeks to break the surface.

Descubrí a Leyre en un evento de Under Pleasure en el Cafe de Madrid y, desde entonces, lo tengo claro: es fantástica. Tiene la actitud perfecta, es trabajadora y rebosa positividad. Estas fotos son de hace unos meses, pero tenemos más contenido muy pronto, ya que esta semana estuvimos disparando en mi evento Fashion Art Invitational en la fantastica 95 Gallery Madrid 95 ART GALLERY

En cuanto Leyre tenga un hueco en su calendario, volveremos a trabajar juntos. Si tienes la oportunidad de contratarla para tu campaña, hazlo; no te defraudará.

Para mí, Under Pleasure es extremadamente útil; es como un gran casting abierto donde encuentras a muchos aspirantes a modelo. Leyre es, sin duda, una de las mejores que he visto. Gracias a Under Pleasure por ayudarme tanto en mi proceso de casting.
