Even though Hong Kong is one of the world’s most expensive cities, doing it on a budget is absolutely possible!

Here is how we made it happen:
🏨 Accommodation: We stayed at the Ramada Hong Kong Grand View in North Point. It wasn’t glamorous (hello, mystery carpet stains 😅), but the location was amazing - surrounded by local markets, cheap eats, and a 7-Eleven. At a cash rate of just $44/night, it’s an absolute steal.
🚃 Transit Hacks: Skip the cabs! The iconic double-decker “Ding Dings” are only 42¢ a ride (note that these are only on Hong Kong island, not Kowloon), and the Star Ferry across the harbor is just 51¢.
🥟 Cheap Michelin Eats: We took a 74¢ bus to Kowloon to eat at Tim Ho Wan, one of the cheapest Michelin-rated (used to have a Michelin star) restaurants in the world. We got a massive feast for under $25!
✨ Free Sightseeing: We rode the world’s longest outdoor escalator through Soho and watched the nightly Symphony of Lights show over the harbor - Avenue of Stars (Kowloon Side) is universally considered the best and most popular spot.

Travel rule #1: The exact second you get too confident in your “we’ll figure it out” strategy, the universe will humble you. 🛻🗺️
Trying to get from Koh Lanta to Cheow Lan Lake was a complete logistical marathon. We accidentally booked a shuttle to the Khao Sok National Park entrance instead of the lake pier, which left us stranded on a random highway. Thankfully, a WhatsApp negotiation, a pickup truck ride with 3 local ladies, and a buffer day with a $33 hotel and 7-11 dinner saved the trip.
The destination was 100% worth the chaos.
But spoiler alert: we are still traveling on a budget, so we skipped the massive overwater villas. 👀

$100 vs. Krabi, Thailand. 🇹🇭💸

Broken flip flop not included..
(Luckily we were able to fix it 🤣)

For those who want to know logistics:
🏨 Hotel: The Krabi Forest Homestay (located in Ao Nang). Highly recommend if you want to save money but still be close to the water!
🚤 The Boat: The prettiest beaches in Krabi (like Railay Beach) have zero cars and can only be reached by boat. We bought our round-trip tickets right across from our hotel.
📌 Pro-Tip for the Free Cave: The hidden cave we found at the end of the video is the Bat Cave on Phra Nang Beach! Walk all the way to the far right side of the beach and look for the ropes. It’s a steep climb up the rocks (bring your phone flashlight and don't wear flip-flops!), but it leads to the best viewpoint on the island, and it's 100% free. 🦇

This is what a 160-million-year-old rainforest looks like. 🤯🇹🇭
Welcome to Cheow Lan Lake in Khao Sok National Park.

Those massive cliffs jutting out of the water are ancient limestone karsts, surrounded by an evergreen jungle that is actually older than the Amazon.

Interestingly, while the jungle is ancient, the 165-square-kilometer emerald lake is man-made, flooded in 1987 to provide power to the region. Today, it’s one of the most biodiverse places on the planet and an absolute must for your Thailand itinerary.
