On 7 November 1938, Robert Capa photographed the Segre Front around Aitona, Catalonia.

His original photographs appeared in Regards and Picture Post.

Nearly 88 years later, I stood in the same places and photographed the same landscape.

Top day in the hills above Aitona, site of Robert Capa’s last big battlefield assignment before the Spanish Republicans finally gave up the fight against Spanish fascism.

His route has recently been figured out and you can now retrace Capa’s steps, although the trail is a bit flaky and you can get lost among the endless peach orchards.

Recommended, especially if you’re interested in anti-fascism and photography, as I am.

Top tip: it’s blazing hot, almost desert conditions, so take plenty of water. I didn’t ohhps.

felt like walking towards the firing squad yesterday, although it turned out to be a great day in the sunshine playing quality music and bantering with the fans in a PACKED stadium - weirdest atmosphere when news filtered through that everton had rolled over - promised cheryl i would be over it by the time i took off from LGW now i’m waiting to get that flight back to catalonia and continue our holiday - it’s only football oh well never mind onwards already looking forward to next season … also hatched a photography project with - millwall bring it on 🟣🔵✊🏾🔥✌🏾⚒️
