Nikon girl for 30 years. My take on going mirrorless and my new Nikon Z8 in 50 secs.
Auto focus is great - set at AF-C with 3D on people - swapping to AF-S centred focus when I want to control it myself. For details, not humans. Great for a wedding and portrait photographer.
The colours and exposure straight out of camera - set to Portrait - are pretty spot on (in most scenarios), though I do feel it is exposing darker compared to what I see in the viewfinder a lot of the time. The viewfinder is a computer screen, always brighter.
No sound, or the little fake shutter sound, is ‘dissatisfying’ LOL - for the clients as well. They don’t know if I am actually taking a photo. Good for some scenarios - at a wedding, in the quiet ceremony moment.
The digital viewfinder is ‘pants’ (that’s English for annoying/crap/not what I like). I don’t like it at all! LOL. It is, well... JUST DIGITAL. And contrasty and blue. So I keep wondering if I am taking my soft, delicate, natural light photos or not!
The computer inside is A LOT! I mean, how much do you need in one camera! I thought I just needed ISO, speed, aperture and autofocus. 😉
And that’s my take for now - happy to hear of settings I might be missing out on!
And here are some photos so far in stories.
