Happy 12th Birthday 🎉
It’s hard to accept when your children grow up so fast, especially the youngest child. Turning 12 is a major milestone within the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC). Just as Jewish families celebrate a Bat Mitzvah when a young girl turns 12, it is also a significant milestone in the EOTC. While celebrated for similar reasons of entering accountability, our faith is beautifully based on what Christ did.
Twelve is the age Jesus went to the temple and held a deep conversation with the teachers. This tells us that a child at this age is old enough to carry their own spiritual weight. Before the age of 7, children are considered sinless. From age 7, when they begin to practice fasting, until age 12, their sins rest on the shoulders of their parents. This means parents are called to answer for those sins, as it is their responsibility to guide and teach them; if they don’t, it is considered the parents’ failure.
However, from the age of 12 and up, the child is personally accountable for the sins they commit. The child must now put into practice all the lessons they have been taught. This is exactly why children 12 and older must have their own confession fathers.
It is truly hard to believe our child is already 12 and is now entering the world to fight the good fight. We love you, our beautiful and wise child. May God continue to guide and protect you! 🙏🏾

+19th Anniversary+

Glory be to God for giving us yet another year. After 19 years of adventure, I wonder where we are going to land for our 20th. May He continue to guide our path, as God only knows where He will lead us for the “Big 20.”

For those who are looking to get married, may God give you a wife like mine, who wholeheartedly strives to be a godly wife. Only God knows how hard it is to be a wife who is willing to give up everything to be closer to Him. My wife is a woman who wants to please her Creator by being submissive to His will, seeking to please Him more than herself. I am not saying my wife is perfect, as no human being is perfect except the beloved Embetetachin, but she is the type of woman who tries her best to be pleasing in His eyes, especially in an era where being a submissive wife is often misunderstood as a form of slavery.

May God give you the strength and courage to keep moving forward on the path you willingly chose to ensure our marriage is in line with the will of God. Of course, Christ is the cornerstone of our lives, but He made you the foundation upon which our home is built. Christ is the pillar of our home, but He made you the soil that the pillar stands on. Christ is the Life of our home, but He made you the breath that gives our home life. That is why we (the MAR family) always look forward to having you sit with us whenever we have a meal. You give our table life as soon as you sit down.

Enate, God only knows what I would do without you. I love you so much and can’t wait for the big 20th. May our Beloved Father Jesus Christ, the beloved Embetetachin, and our patron saint, Abune Tekle Haymanot, continue to guide our lives.
